Prepping Your Teams For Events
Trainer: Isagenix® Millionaire and 6 Star Golden Circle Jay Bennett
Learn how building towards events can boost your business and inspire your team to set goals.
>> Well, good morning everyone, and welcome to our Saturday morning business training with Isagenix. My name is Kjersti Cote, your host, a pleasure to be here with all of you. We have a fantastic call in store for all of you. I think one of my all time favorite trainers in all of Isagenix is with us this morning, Mr. Jay Bennett. Very, very much needed topic, I think, at this time especially since we are post-Celebration. People have their goals. We’ve got all of this cool bonus stuff going on. And for those of you that are not plugged into a system yet or do not have your goals set, this is definitely the call for you this morning.
The topic this morning is prepping your teams for events, and obviously we’re going to be talking about what Jay did to go from zero to an Isagenix millionaire, 6-Star Golden Circle, in three years, just a little over three years. Pretty impressive. So with that I’d love without further ado to introduce Jay to all of you. For those of you who are brand new, Jay has been a part of Isagenix since the very beginning. But he really kind of, you know, found other interests, came back into Isagenix full-force about three years ago just this last June, and has never looked back ever since.
He hailed from San Clemente, California. He’s married, has two beautiful children, and really he has one of the fastest growing teams in all of Isagenix. He is very passionate about helping people along the way. One of his claims to fame is he helped to develop 33 personally enrolled associates to consultants in just six months. Isn’t that amazing how to develop 33 consultants? He is a 6-Star Golden Circle, 4-Star Executive. He’s one of our Isagenix millionaires, and, I think, one of his most prestigious awards that he’s received that really I know meant a lot to him recognizing him for his leadership, his hard work, and effort was the 2008 Man of the Year award. So with that, good morning Mr. Jay Bennett. Welcome to the call.
>> Hi, Kjersti from Montana. How you doing?
>> Doing good. Doing very good. I’m anxious to have you go into all of the details. I know that you and I have planned for this morning, because your story is truly amazing. The way that you’ve chosen to build your business is–it spells simplicity. And it just obviously works with your success. So with that, I’d love for you to just kind of kickoff the call this morning and share with all our listeners your story. Where did it all begin?
>> Well, you know, I’ve been in the networking industry for 25 years, so I can say that it didn’t happen overnight. I got involved in networking because I was dissatisfied with my job. I didn’t really like it coming out of college, and so I was looking for an opportunity and found out about the concept the geometric progression. You know, five people getting five is 25. Those 25 get five is 125. And realizing that when my time in labor was not involved, I was getting paid on people and their efforts. And there was a way leveraging things, and you could see that because of geometric progression you could create large volume and, of course, large income. So that concept always got my attention, but the problem has been quality companies along the way.
There are very few of them, and that’s what makes Isagenix special is that we have the dynamics, of course, of geometric progression especially with the two team plan. But we have the credibility and integrity of the owners here at the top, you know, Jim and Kathy Coover, John Anderson on the product side. And because that, it’s going to be long term. And so it allows you then to really, you know, plant yourself and allow yourself to bloom and allows geometric progression to really work for you, and that’s what we have at Isagenix. And that’s what I got excited about that this was going to be a company that’s long term. And I think I really got that three years ago, and that’s when I started really kicking in. So, you know, that’s kind of my story in a nutshell. And I do have, Kjersti, you know, I talked to you little bit about, you know, those 33 personally enrolled consultants. And I’m looking back, and I’m realizing I had a little technique there. Did you want me to share that?
>> Absolutely, yes.
>> Yea, I wanted–I thought maybe this might be helpful, and a lot of people have heard me talk about three step system. But I wanted to do that because you have to have the ability especially in network marketing to build long distance. You’re going to have lists of people all over the country, and it won’t be just in your own specific area. But it’ll expand all over the planet. And you really need to have a system by which you can call people and walk them through the information. And so I’m really think that the three step system is something that you do need to learn.
And if we’re talking live in event, making appointments to get people to watch a video is an event. You need to look at that as an event. And so the three step system, I’m going to kind of update you with what I’m doing. And you can do whatever you want. This is just kind of an idea. This is a tract to run on. But because we have so many videos, I wanted to kind of share this to give everybody simplicity here.
The fact is we’ve got to give people information, and I have decided the D.R. Speaks Out is the best video to lead with, because we are very product driven at Isagenix. It just is what it is. And people are always going to be asking product questions, and why are we different, and what’s it all about, and what program do I need, and all that kind of stuff. So we might as well do step one, which is on the product side and then go to step two which is the business side.
And the D.R. Speaks Out allows a medical doctor to explain the products. The D.R. Speaks Out is basically the Are You Toxic video, and you have the medical doctors who’s speaking about the program and why it works and actually going through the products. You have John Anderson in there. You’ve got Kathy Coover talking about the mission statement. You’ve got testimonials. Really you have a tremendous amount of quality information that is there, and it’s in about a 15 minute period. So the drspeaksout.com, I like that, because there’s no other videos to confuse someone or to get distracted about where they’re clicking over there. You just get them to watch that video, and when I look back at getting my 33 consultants, that’s the only video I showed was the Are You Toxic video, which is on the D.R. Speaks Out. And I highly recommend making that your focus, making that the duplicatable lead video. This is the track that I’m on.
Then after you follow up on them, so everybody knows, number one, it’s set the appointment. Right? Or number one it’s connecting with the person, making the phone call. Number two is set the appointment, and when you set that appointment, get them in front of D.R. Speaks Out. Get that video working for you. Then number three is follow up. And on the follow up, you’re going to do the best you can to answer their questions and walk them through the different options. So the fact is that they may need to lose weight. You’ve got a 30 day system. They may need to be for price point. Maybe a nine day system might be better for them. Just try nine day. So you have to learn how to give them different options based on their needs, their wants, where they’re coming from. But the ability to grab that order is key.
There’s no reason after watching that video then you’re following up answering their questions that you’re getting an order right over the phone getting the started. Then at that point, you could turn them onto isamovie.com, and let them take time to look at different videos. And you could recommend different videos that they could watch. Maybe you didn’t get the order. You could get them to look at the videos that you point out to them that would be good for them to watch.
Maybe the IsaBody Challenge or if they’re maybe a health professional, The Doctors, if they’re an athlete, the athlete videos. You’ve got the new videos, the Transform Your Life, that give you a big, broad stroke about what Isagenix is all about and very, very, well put together. But that would be after you get them to see D.R. Speaks Out. So the key is you’ve got to have a track that you’re on that you’re duplicating over, and over, and over again. And that you are so focused and laser beamed, and I think the D.R. Speaks Out, in my opinion, is the best first step to do that where you can duplicate that. So that’s kind of an update if you’re on this call.
There’s a lot of people that have been going to IsaMovie, but then they’re maybe looking at two, three, four videos. And it’s just getting overwhelming. There’s just too much information. So that’s my take on it. That’s what I’m doing is getting them the D.R. Speaks Out. And then giving them the IsaMovie after that. So just wanted to share that.
>> Nice. Nice. So just to kind to sum up right now before we move on is obviously you want people to make their list, make their list. When you’re training your brand new associate, make your list. And then, of course, you’re teaching them. You’re training them how to connect with those people on their list, taking them to doctorspeaksout.com, setting the appointments, then following up, and enrolling. And it’s as simple as chocolate or vanilla and getting their credit card. Correct?
>> Yea, exactly. And I’ve got like–I’m looking at stacks of apps. I’ve gotten three in the last two days here. I’m looking at brand new people, and it’s exactly how I’ve done it. And, you know, again the long distance sponsoring is one part of it.
Now, Kjersti, if we’re going to events and we’re going to talk about some other side of events, the fact is meeting people face-to-face is a big, big part of what we do too. So I have an appointment here later today where I’m meeting a chiropractor. And It’s going to be a face-to-face appointment. So he’s local. It makes sense to meet him face-to-face. I can sit down with them, show them the company; the product, the market plan. And it’s that face-to-face, belly-to-belly report. You can never, never get past that. That is always so, so important.
And also on top of that are meetings or trainings that you’re going to have in a local area. So a home party is another event that’s huge that needs to be part of your business that you’re absolutely setting up home parties. And the key to setting up home parties is you’ve got to go through your team, your group and say, “Mary, when are you going to do a home party?”. And you literally look at your calendars and you set an appointment. You set up that home party. And it needs to probably be three, four, five, six weeks in advance. So you learn to set up those appending events. You get your people shooting for them.
So let’s say you have ten people in your group that were shooting for an appending event, they’re own home party. You can imagine ten people averaging, let’s just say, five people per home party. Ten times five is 50 new people that you could be talking to in your new teams and in your new groups. And that has to be implemented within your business to really, really get that exposure that you need to get. So face-to-face appointment, one-on-ones, home parties, and then area events.
Now here in Southern California, we team with some leaders in the Southern California area. And we’re doing area events. We’re doing opportunity meeting once a month, and we’re doing a big opportunity once a month. And then we’re doing a training once a month, and on the front part of the training we’re doing another opportunity meeting. So I guess we could be saying we’re doing two opportunity meetings as an area team, as an area and then one big Saturday, super Saturday training. So if in fact you’re doing your one-on-ones and you’re doing your home parties, those would funnel into your area events and your area trainings. So that’s your feeder system if you will. You’ve got to get that exposure going on a local level. And the locals, the one-on-ones, the home parties are going to do that. And then you roll that and you promote those big, you know, area trainings so that everybody can kind of get the bigger picture within the area. And that’s why the conventions and the Isagenix University, I plug into all of those, Kjersti, is I use all of those appending events. So you’re constantly using the next event, the next event, the next event.
>> So, Jay, I mean, I don’t think that there’s too many Isagenix Universities or top achievers, annual events, a journey to the stage that you have not attended. I mean, you’ve gone to so many. And let me ask you this. This is kind of cool, because you said that some of the people that you enroll in Isagenix you work with long distance. I mean, you live in California. I’m sure that you’ve enrolled some people on the East Coast. And with that being said, you actually get to meet some of these individuals face-to-face at these Isagenix events like an Isagenix University where you meet. It’s like, “Oh, my gosh. It’s good to see you,” putting a face with a voice and belly-to-belly kind of effect. I mean, has that happened quite a bit?
>> Absolutely. The last convention was amazing how many people I met. You know, this one–there’s a one gal that I’ve talked to for years, probably 15 years, and I finally got her to take a look at Isagenix. She came to the convention, and in my head I thought she was a nice little grandmother maybe from Scandinavia. And I find out she was kind of a young Asian gal. [Laughter]
>> And it was like my head was that she was looking like this, and the reality is this is what she was. I was just blown away when I met her, because I had been on the phone with her over the years for 15 years and finally got her into Isagenix.
>> Great.
>> So that is a very unique thing is you’re building your networks, meeting a lot of these people over the phones, and getting to meet them at the events, and really connect the dots, and get to know who the people really are. So it’s just a lot of fun.
>> So feed us just a little bit. For those of people that are listening in on the line this morning that are brand new that have not gone to an event, you know, why is that you really want your team, you know, to set their goals, build their teams, and then go to a corporate event such as an ICU? What are some of the benefits that they’re going to be receiving? I mean, what happens to your team, because I know you’ve watched your team literally transform over a three day period of time when they get to an event like, let’s say, and ICU?
>> Well, you know, I’ll just use an example here, because results speak louder than words. You know, Joni Brewer, who won Woman of the Year here this last convention here in Anaheim, at the last ICU she had over 50 people on her team at that ICU. So she had 50 people that were getting three day training, Kjersti, that were literally, you know, getting the nuts and bolts and all fired up. And it makes total sense that from that ICU she is now Woman of the Year because of the momentum, the volume, the business, the things that are happening in her business.
And so the people that really do plug in, and make that extra effort, and get their teams to those events create more volume, more business, and create more money. I mean, that’s just what it is. And the company’s going to recognize that, and the company is going to see that. That’s why Joni Brewer is Woman of the Year. And so a lot of people might scratch their head and go, “Why am I not up here and doing this and doing that?”. Well, the question would be how many people did you get to the ICU. How many people did you get to the area event? How many people did you get to your journey of the stages events that David Wood is doing? In other words, you’ve got to look at how many bodies you’re getting into those rooms is going to determine really the speed of your organization.
And so there’s no getting around it. Until your people get clear, until they get a big picture, until they know what they’re you doing; you’re not going to get results that you want to get. You could put a lot of bodies in this program, but if they’re not trained, if they’re not knowing the products, if they’re not knowing the business, if they’re not knowing the tools, if they’re not understanding how to even navigate the website; you know, they’re not really in the program. They’ve singed an application. Anybody can sign an app. But that doesn’t mean that they know what they’re dong. And so to have these Isagenix Universities, to have these training events, these personal development events, to have access to them and not use them is like saying, “You know, I’m not really caring about my business that much.”
You really have to look at that reality. Do you really want success in your life? You’re going to then have to have the ability to promote these events. Make it a big deal. Get your people there. And it may just start with one. In other words, make a difference in one person’s life. You know, you may not have 50 people there like Joni Brewer did this last ICU. That’s alright. Start with one. Get yourself down there, and get one person with you down there. And that’s where it starts. It starts with one person. One will lead to three. Three will lead to ten. Ten will lead to 20. Twenty will lead to 50. Joni Brewer had to take the steps. She just didn’t get into the company, and boom, she had 50 people there. It took her a couple of years to grow into this and then start realizing the benefits of getting her team to that event and then watch her business grow. So it is a process.
>> Yea, absolutely. And the belief that it instills in people, because, I mean, working even with you, Jay, over the phone, you know, and then getting nourished by, you know, your advice, your experience, you know, and being taught by you to actually see you face-to-face, get into a room with three to 500 other people, because that’s about the norm at an Isagenix University, just really drives it home. Like it brings some reality into the picture. Don’t you think?
>> Absolutely. I mean, it’s critical. I think the ICU is probably our–I mean, I love the conventions and the top achievers. But I think probably the Isagenix Universities probably is the best nuts and bolts training we have for everybody. And so we need to get to our people to access those trainings. I mean, if you were going to buy a franchise, they have training programs that are, you know, weeks, and you pay a lot of money for these training programs. I mean, you might pay a million dollars for a franchise, and then you pay 50,000 dollars on top of that for the training or whatever the numbers are. It’s always extreme in my point.
You know, for 199, you know, you’ve got this three day intensive training. And they feed you lunch and dinner. And it’s just unbelievable the value you’re getting and how you come away going, “Okay, I have a much better handle on this business and how much productive those people are.” So it really is critical that we get people into these programs.
>> Yea, now let’s talk just a few minutes about, you know, overcoming objections. I mean, you talked about looking at the numbers, you know, the power of five getting five who then get five. I mean, it translates into 125 people. But let’s talk about, you know, overcoming objections. I mean, as you went through and you literally got on that phone and just called, called, called, called. I remember you telling us that while you would get one person watching doctorspeaksout.com, I’m going to call you back in 20 minutes. You know, in the meantime while that individual–you hang up, is watching Doctor Speaks Out. You would then move to another call and get someone else going on the Doctor Speaks Out. So you didn’t waste any time during the day in getting people to take a look and then, of course, setting your appointment and following up and enrolling these individuals. It was just one day after the next after the next.
Now let’s talk about, you know, overcoming objections, because obviously as you, you know, went forward with your contacts, there were people that said, “No, thanks.” So for maybe those people that are on the line listening that are new to the industry, maybe haven’t heard the word no yet, you know, because the word no can be crippling to some people. What are some advice that you can give these individuals as they move forward, you know, taking a look at the numbers, finding those people that are in need of what you’re looking for? You know, let’s talk about that for a second.
>> Well, you know, the reality is, you know, not everybody is going to go in this direction. The bottom line is I don’t think you ever do get over the fact that someone says no, or they’re not interested, or they don’t want to do it, or whatever. I think you’re not human if you don’t have a little bit of a, “Gosh darn it. I wish they could get in with me.”
But, you know, you have to believe what you’re doing more than a few no’s and you have to believe in what you’re doing, that nutritional cleansing is the way to go. This is going to be very personal, very, you know, I’m going to say vulnerable. But, you know, I had a couple of family members here this last weekend, and I haven’t seen them for a long time. And they’re at my new IsaVilla, by the way, Kjersti. And they’re at my IsaVilla, and they’re overweight and obese. And I’m talking about family members.
And I shared Isagenix with them, and they see that I’ve got this successful business going. They see the new house. They see, you know, the whole thing. And, you know, I’ve laid Isagenix on them. And they literally say, “You know, I just need to eat better. I just need to do this.” You know, and I’m like, “What? Don’t you get it? You guys, whatever you’re doing isn’t working. This Isagenix program, you know, I’m helping all these other people, your family. I want to get you guys going here.”
And they just kind of blow it off. Now you can’t be human and not be affected by someone saying no and not wanting to do it when you really believe in something and you feel like you’ve got something that’s just so powerful and so incredible. But guess what? You have to move on, you know. If in fact they don’t go down that path, guess what? They’re going to get the result of their choice. In this case, puffy faces, overweight, obese, and probably serious health problems as we go down this path.
So the fact is everybody will have a result to the choices that they make. And so the question is, when you choose Isagenix, do you think you’re going to get better results than if you don’t choose Isagenix. And if you really believe that the answer is yes that you are going to have better results, you’re going to have more energy, you’re going to feel better, you’re going to look better, you’re going to have less body fat, you’re going to lose inches, you’re going to have move lean muscle, you’re going to have all these benefits of a vibrant lifestyle, you know, a quality of life. If that is important to you, you really truly believe that, then you’re going to be okay. You’re going to handle some of these no’s, some of these rejections some of these people that don’t move in the same direction as you because of your belief system.
My belief system is, guess what? I’m going to do this no matter what. I’m going to get as many people to do this as possible, and some people are going to come with me. Some people are going to come with me, and some people aren’t. That’s it. And I am too locked into what I want in my life in terms of my health and my wealth and my financial future and making a difference in peoples’ lives. I’m very, very clear on getting much more locked in as the years go by. The direction of where I’m going in my life, I am not going to take a no to derail me from my dreams. And the family members themselves have to be a little surprised when they come to the house and they walk out and go, “Wow. This thing is working for this guy. You know, this thing is working for my brother. This thing is working for my cousin. You know, this thing is really working.”
You know, and that’s probably, you know, where I have to leave it. Because I’ve really tried to bang away. Now they can’t come around, you know, six months a year two years down the road. A lot of people as you show you’re committed, as you show you’re on this track, a lot people will come around. So I guess the answer is this. It’s going to be really–you know, I’ve seen a lot of people quit. Okay. And you are going to see a lot of people quit. And that–the question you have to ask yourself is do you really believe in this. Do you really, really believe in what you’re doing here? Do you believe in these products? Do you believe in this company? Do you believe in this compensation plan? And even though others may quit or other people may not get involved, what does that mean for you? It should be more fuel to the fire. It should motivate you and inspire you to keep moving down this track. I got to tell you right now, I get more inspired, you know, if other people don’t do it.
It’s like, “Okay. I’m going to prove it to them. This is the right vehicle. This is the right thing.” I’m going to make sure that anybody who said no to Isagenix is going to regret it. Okay. Now maybe that’s my competitive spirit or whatever, but the bottom line is I believe in what we’re doing here. And tell me how many people really believe in what they’re doing in their day-to-day jobs. Do they really believe in what they’re doing. We have something that’s powerful.
We have a mission to help other people, to help them with their health, to help them with their wealth, to help them with their personal development. See without the personal development, I think, the biggest issue is people don’t want to change. They don’t want to grow. They don’t want to make those shifts. And that’s why they get stuck. And the personal development stuff is so critical. That’s why we’re talking about getting to these events like the ICUs and these different personal development events that we have, you know, with David Wood. They’re terrific. I plugged into those. Kjersti, I know you did.
>> Oh, man. I actually, Jay, if I can just make one comment on that. I would not be the person that I am today. I mean, I’m still the same person in the way that I love and who I am, you know, inside. But going to events over the last couple of years with, you know, throughout the Isagenix Universities and the trainings that David Wood puts on, I am actually more of a person and a woman than I think I ever could have been. I mean, it would have taken me–for me to get into my 50s you know, to get where I am right now just over the last couple of years because of the experiences that I’ve had at these events. I mean, it’s phenomenal personal growth. Phenomenal.
>> Yea, and I’ve told all the people. Some people in my organization, “Don’t go to those events because of, you know, they’ve got head trips.” In my opinion, but what I do is I know that all those personal development events are an opportunity for me to grow, to change, to develop, to sharpen my skills. Why would you say no to the opportunity to sharpen your skills? I don’t understand that. You know, the people don’t realize the reason that they’re not effective really in the market place is they’ve not sharpened their skills. They’ve got a dull sword, if you will. They’re not sharp. They’re not–they have not refined their skills. And what happens is that the personal development seminars here that we have and these events is that you get to fix and refine.
You get to look at what you’re doing and see where you may need to make these adjustments. And it’s so ciritcal to have that interface with other people in that kind of an environment so you can help yourself to get better. And unless you are going to get better and you’re going to get better skills and you’re going to become a better speaker, or better presenter, or better at listening–I know myself that I’m learning right now in my business life that I have got to listen better, and I have got to ask better questions. And, you know, I feel like I can pitch my socks off. That’s not a problem, but I’ve got to learn how to listen. And I’ve got to learn how to ask questions. Well, that’s all come through Isagenix. Isagenix has helped me because of these personal development seminars to learn that kind of stuff.
As simple as it may sound, do I really practice it? Do I really put it into effect in my life? And so I highly recommend, gosh, any personal development event. You look at your back office, you look at the calendar, and you plot that stuff out, and you get your body there, and you teach your people to do that. And as they do, all of a sudden these shifts start to occur. And all of a sudden, you start to see the growth. And I could tell you so many people at Isagenix that have plugged in this way that are doing well, and I’m one of them.
>> You know what? It just speaks quality. It just takes your whole, you know, business building efforts to a whole new level when it comes to quality leadership, everything, and getting more clearer on your why. We’ve covered so much. Not only did you share your story, you know, you really shared your success and exactly what you do on a daily business building toward events, you know, whether it’s home parties, opportunity meetings, team trainings, really taking a look at the numbers, and just looking for those that are looking for you. I know we’re up against, you know, our time ending right now. And so I would just like for you to just kind of wrap it up if there’s any golden nuggets that you’d like to just close with this morning, anything else that you’d like to share with all of our listeners as they move forward into success with Isagenix. We’d love to hear them.
>> Yea. One thing that I’m really trying to drive now, Kjersti, is try to teach the concept of mapping out your week in advance. I shared it a the convention, but I’m going to say it here on this call. Map out your week in advance. I think what happens for most people is that a week goes by like sand through their fingers. And then if you do that week in and week out, week in and week out, 52 weeks later you’ve got a big fat zero. You’ve got to learn how to maximize your week. And that’s a skill.
Okay, that is a management skill that you’ve got to employ. So mapping out your week, think of map, M.A.P. meetings, M for meetings. A for appointments. P for phones. Your job in advance is to plug out meetings, appointments, and phones in advance in that week coming up. So Monday night you have your team call. Tuesday you have the corporate call. You know, Wednesday you have maybe a home party. Thursday you have a training. Friday you’ve got your follow up, and then you’re blocking out three-way calls. And you’re blocking out conference calls. You’re blocking out webinars during the week. You’re blocking out Saturday training, you know, where you’re plugged in a Saturday training. You’re blocking out home parties the next week that you have in advance. You’re blocking out the meetings, the appointments, the phones. See those are the three areas that you’re blocking out in advance. So what happens by doing that and getting good that, and it’ll take some time.
There’ll be a little bit a light time to get this thing rolling. But what’ll happen as you see yourself going from a pending event, to a pending event, to a pending event, to a pending event; whether it’s a three-way call, a conference call, a webinar, a home party, a one-on-one, a company event, whatever it might be. And you’re scheduling these things in advance. If you can learn that art you will keep yourself busy. And then in that process, you’re always recruiting. You’re always talking to new people. You’re always getting people going, and you plug them into your structure. You’re plugging them into your events that you’re plugged into. See, and they come with you to these different things. And they’re plugging in with you. And once you start getting a team of people plugging in on this level, you’re going to go to the next level. So, Kjersti, that was my one little piece of advice at the end here.
>> Alright, well, it is always, always a pleasure having you on these calls. I love your passion, your fire behind what you’re doing. It is very, very contagious. And we just we appreciate your leadership, Jay, and the example that you set to our entire field. And I know you’ve heard this so many times, but really, congratulations on all of the success that you’ve had within Isagenix. And we just really appreciate you, and thanks for all of the advice for this morning’s call.

>> Take care.
