We have a fun and very informative call in store for tonight. Susan Sly is with us. We’re going to be talking about everyday cleansing and much, much more. We are going to be covering a lot of information in a very short period of time so just a quick reminder that this call will be recorded and I’ll tell you where you can listen to it at a later date or actually within about 24 hours you can pick it up. So without further ado I would love to introduce Susan Sly to all of you. For those of you who are brand new to Isagenix, Susan Sly is 1 of our top income earners. She has been a part of our Isagenix family for, oh my goodness has it been 7, no 5 years. Has it been 5 years, Susan?

>>Susan: About 5 and a half years.

>>Kjersti: Five and a half years. That’s amazing. And she is truly a dear friend of mine. I love her. I love her brilliance. Let me tell you a little bit about her background. She’s a holistic nutritionist and trainer. She is a former professor of nutrition. We kind of joke around about her being you know kind of like a brainy geek. [laughter] But she loves reading. She loves studying. She loves you know delving in and researching and she’s also an athlete. She competed for team Canada at 1 point in time.

She also is an Ironman triathlon. She ran the Boston Marathon about a year or 2 ago. She finished that, wonderful, wonderful, thing there. And she’s also an author. She’s an author of the highly acclaimed Have it All Woman and IsaBody Beautiful and she also co-authored MLM Women and I believe all of those books you can get through Sound Concepts which I’ll tell you a little bit more at the end of the call as well. She has appeared on ABC’s Families, Living the Life and is featured in the issue of Diane magazine for Curves. Also HEART Business Journal for Women in Canada and her latest article on the truth of Body Transformation will appear or actually did appear in the Natural Awakenings Magazine, so very fun. She keeps very busy because on top of all this, she’s a mommy. She’s a mommy of 3 very, very beautiful children ages 11, 6 and 3 and she’s actually, her and Chris, her and her husband Chris are expecting baby number 4 and I believe, Susan what do you just have 5 weeks left, 4 weeks left?

>>Susan: We’re definitely in the home stretch and between having the baby and moving from Canada to America [laughter] and house hunting, all I have to say is I am so grateful to your dad for these Isagenix products. [laughter]

>>Kjersti: Or else you wouldn’t be making it. There’s so much going on, I mean you’re running a multi-million dollar business from home and you have all of these little babies running around and helping to raise them and you’re an author and you’re a leader and everybody on the line you should know that Susan is in our top 10 of income earners. She became the Isagenix 18th millionaire a few years back. She has sat on many field advisory boards, currently sitting on the 2008/2009 field advisory board and I feel — she’s received a lot of awards for her leadership and her dedication to Isagenix but I think the most prestige’s aware that she’s received most recently is the Presidents award in 2008 and so Susan we love you and all that you do for the company and for your team and to support all of us out in the field. So with that, good evening and welcome to the call.

>>Susan: Well thank you Kjersti. It’s so wonderful to be here with you because you are 1 of my dear friends in the world and I know today we were chitchatting about all kinds of things and also just in terms of our topic tonight and how you know right now in the field we are so blessed to have you know 3 main options in terms of cleansing and I know we’re going to be going over those this evening.

And I was on the phone with Kathy Coover the other day and we were talking about all of the new incentives and how people can make money so quickly and we’re just so blessed to be in Isagenix and I really and truly, Chris and I thank the Lord every single day for this company, for your parents and for Jim and Kathy for bringing us here so I’m very excited to be here.

>>Kjersti: Oh, I know. I count my blessings every day too because of the transition and the transformations that Isagenix has provided and of course all given to us to be able to take advantage of and I think that the, obviously the foundation of Isagenix is cleansing the body, replenishing and revitalize. That is the core words I feel that you could use to explain Isagenix is cleansing, replenishing and revitalizing the body and allowing the body to become the miracle that it was designed to be.

So more specifically let’s focus in and hone in on the cleansing because when the company was founded 7, almost 7 and a half years ago, you know we only had the 9 day cleanse which is 2 days of cleanse, 5 days of shakes, 2 days of cleanse and that’s the only path that was available, the only products that were available that were you know were in the 9 day cleanse and so it’s been exciting to see all of the additions and the changes to the packs and everything but let’s really hone in on the cleansing. Now we’re recommending people to do everyday cleansing if they choose to do so but let’s kind of break down people’s options, exactly what it would look like to do a perfect day of a 1 day cleanse, a 2 day cleanse, 9 day cleansing and then the everyday cleanse, so where do you want to start?

>>Susan: Well if we could, Kjersti I love to, you know something that’s just heavy on my heart to talk about with everyone is the question I’m asked all the time, even in the media, is just to define cleansing and why we need to cleanse and just to go over how Isagenix is different because I think that sets the tone for our topic this evening. Would that be alright?

>>Kjersti: Absolutely because cleansing has been around for centuries and I was just in the organic section of my grocery store yesterday and I couldn’t believe how many teas, drinking teas. It’s like detox tea, liver detox, detox, detox and I’m like oh my gosh, I mean I can’t believe it. So not all cleansing is created equally so yes let’s get into the foundations of cleansing.

>>Susan: Absolutely because the thing that attracted me, you know for years I practiced as a holistic nutritionist and trainer and had written articles and guest lectured and done all of the things in your beautiful introduction and 1 of the reasons that I was resistant to cleansing is because number 1, a lot of cleanses out there are single organ cleanses and the challenge is that the body is very complex. It is composed of organ systems and it is composed of the smallest level cells and within the cells there are different entities as well. And so what you have if you just cleanse 1 organ is those impurities are going to come out of the organ. They’re going to go into the super highway of the body which is the bloodstream and the blood circulates to all parts of the body and comes through the heart. So only cleansing 1 organ can actually be detrimental to the health of the individual.

And 1 of the things I say to people is if you, you know, had your home and it was filthy would you only cleanse 1 room of your home? It wouldn’t make any sense whatsoever and I liken it to this, imagine you have a home and your teenagers throw a party and they absolutely — there’s pizza boxes everywhere, there’s you know all sorts of things, sticky stuff like on the floor from whatever the teenagers were in to, whether it’s soda, whatever the kids, the house is filthy so you go in this room and decide to clean this room and you put all the garbage in a bag and as you’re dragging the bag from room to room there’s a tear in the bag and all of this sludge gets dragged from room to room to room and it actually makes each room dirtier. And it’s the same thing in cleanses.

So 1 of the things people want to avoid is just a 1 trick pony and going oh I did a liver cleanse. I don’t need to do Isagenix or a did a colon cleanse, I don’t need to do Isagenix. That is furthest from the truth. So number 1 is that the single organ cleanses out there, they can actually be a little more detrimental for you and oftentimes the cleanses that are on the store shelves are really you know very, very basic and they have some basic nutrients in them. Now Dr. Tony O’Donnell talks about this and he says you know for instance with the colon, if the colon is dirty, the blood is dirty. If the blood is dirty the organs are dirty. And by the same token, if you know you go and just try and cleanse 1 organ you could actually make things a lot worse. So 1 of the things I love when I first looked at Isagenix, I’m so grateful to my friend Debra for calling me, is I looked at Isagenix and I saw that there were ingredients that were working on pulling impurities out of the total body. And when I looked at this I went, oh my goodness.

Like I’ve been in some of the finest museums in the world and I’m an art junkie and before I decided to do my undergrad degree which is a science degree, I was going to go to Art school and so I love Art. And I’ve been in the Louvre and the British Museum and I’ve been in the Vatican Museum just actually about 6 weeks ago when I was in Rome and I looked at this and I thought this is genius. This is like a beautiful painting and I thought, I have to see who the artist is. And when I clicked on about the company and I saw your dad and I saw John Anderson, it was a no brainer because I know everything John has created is quality and I’ve been using his products and following his work since the 1980’s. And so much like if someone had a celebrity they really admired, [laughter] that’s had I felt about your dad. And you know knowing your dad and he’s just the most incredible giving person. He is an absolute genius and I looked at this and I went oh ok, this is total body cleansing and this makes so much sense.

The other thing with cleansing, cleanses that are out there, if you had a beautiful car and let’s say it was a Ferrari and you decided to take that car and you were going to give it a new paint job. And you stripped off all the paint but then you decided well I can’t be bothered painting it. I can’t be bothered undercoating it. I can’t be bothered doing anything to it but I’m just going to drive it around. It’s going to get rusted and corroded and very soon that Ferrari is going to break down. And it’s the same thing, you could go to the health food store or the drugstore or even the grocery store these days and you could do a cleanse but unless you replenish and you put the nutrients back in, it’s like driving that Ferrari without putting any sort of thing to buffer against the elements in your body. So it’s the same thing there.

The third thing about cleansing, cleansing is actually, it predates scriptural time so it’s thousands of years old and you know there are recorded documents illustrating many of the oldest civilizations in the world did some form of cleansing. And you may be saying well what were they cleansing? But they knew that even though the body is capable of self regeneration from cell to cell every 7 years, they even knew thousands of years ago that the body is an amazing organism but it can only handle so much. And even back then, even though there were not things like, they didn’t have factories and that type of thing, they did have exposure to other things in the environment and they knew they had to release those impurities from their bodies.

And as I wrote about in IsaBody Beautiful, which is available through Isa Sales tools, and I talked about with the industrialized age that happened in the 1800’s and you know burning of coal and factories and the automobile age and so on and so forth, that even as you know you’re listening to this right now there are literally tens of thousands of manmade toxins in our environment. So if our bodies required cleansing thousands of years ago we can only imagine the kind of requirement that we have now.

And the other thing I want to say about cleansing is to practice this whole dialog we’re having especially for any practitioners we have listening tonight as well, is that the water, although it is a wonderful thing to flush things out of your body, when these impurities come into the body they are encapsulated in fat and you’re never going to flush them out with just water because of course what happens with fat and water they don’t just don’t blend together [laughter] very well and you need different things like herbs and minerals to break down these fatty cuticles in order to release the impurities.

And so with our beautiful Isagenix system what we have is something that you know people have been doing for you know thousands of years. This whole notion of cleansing these impurities out of their body, we have a total body cleanse and it also replenishes the body. And yes there are other companies out there that have cleanses or other cleanses you can buy over the counter but you only got this 1 body on this earth and I say why not use the best and believe me I’ve been in this industry long enough to tell you that Isagenix is the best of the best. And so put Isagenix in your body and we’re going to discuss some different ways to do it. But I wanted to share that Kjersti, it was just really important because I get a lot of questions on a daily basis. Why cleanse, why not just do a liver cleanse? Why not just go to a store and buy a cleanse? So I hope that helps for our listeners this evening.

>>Kjersti: Yeah and you know 1 of the other things too before we proceed is I wanted to have you address the differences of cleansing when it comes to, now you talked about cleansing, replenishing the body at the same time and the differences of the herbs to get all of the sludge out but 1 of the things that I’ve been able to address many times lately and I don’t know what’s going on.

There’s like a big fad going on of the master cleanse. Which for those of you who don’t know what the master cleanse is its water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. And you put this in a bottle, you shake it up and you drink this for I don’t know how many days, if it’s 7, 9, 11 days I’m not sure. But there’s actually a book out that talks about the properties of this and cleansing and people drop a significant amount of weight, a significant amount of inches in a very short period of time. And so you know, I mean with addressing this with respect, I mean you know what’s the differences between the master cleanse and the Isagenix cleanse as far as catabolic states and so forth?

>>Susan: That’s a great question and even if we look at other cleanses you know because it’s very popular to — I heard a story from a physician who was on my team and she said another doctor had recommended to his patient to just go drink water for a day to lose weight. Once a week just drink water, that’s it, which is shocking. So our body is composed of you know obviously bones, organs and muscles and so on and so forth but the building blocks in our body are amino acids and amino acids are responsible for 50 thousand structures in the human body and what I can liken it to is Lego blocks. You know my son AJ, he loves to play Lego’s. He has tons of Lego’s and as we’re packing, Kjersti, oh my goodness, the big bins of Lego’s, Lego’s, tons of Lego’s and the body is structured like that.

And so what happens after 48 hours without any sort of protein source whatsoever is that the body has to go and break down the muscle and utilize these amino acids to make more important structures and there’s a hierarchy in the body for instance white blood cells would have a higher disposition then say regenerating an eyelash, that kind of thing. And so when we don’t get for an extended period of time, after say 72 hours, our body is going to begin to break down our muscle tissue.

Now after the age of 25 we begin to lose a quarter pound to half a pound of muscle a year and muscle is our metabolic active tissue. It’s the fountain of youth. It causes us to burn fat while we rest. It keeps our skeletal structure upright. It’s so important and so when we look at something that involves just you know say lemon juice and water and sugar or even just wheat grass for 9 days or just different things like that, the body is going to go catabolic and it’s going to begin to literally eat itself and that’s muscle eating. The other thing to really understand is the complexity of the Isagenix program. The original 9 day cleanse had 272 nutrients in it as opposed to 4. So again because our body is so complex these 272 nutrients working synergistically, everything from aloe to peppermint to burdock root to cayenne pepper, to podearko [assumed spelling] on and on and on and you know I could list [laughter] a lot of them but when your dad designed it it was to work on the total body system and prevent the body from literally eating itself. And as we look at what some of the epidemics are in America, in Canada, in Taiwan, in Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, everywhere we do business, whoever is listening to this is that some of the things are that people are just gaining weight and even though that some people are continuing to eat a more balanced diet, the problem is if they’re not getting that resistance training they’re body is naturally losing muscle. You can’t eat at 40 what you did at 20. You can’t eat at 50 what you did at 25. And so why would you do something to your body where your body is going to break down and eat more of its own muscle tissue. And that’s where the Isagenix cleanse is so key because even if someone is doing our more accelerated program which is the 9 days, say within that 30 day system, that they’re not going to eat their own muscle and that is so, so key.

And then having all of the new ingredients in the cleanse, the beautiful ashwagandha which is an adaptogen that literally helps your body deal with stress. There’s 7,000 worldwide clinical studies on adaptogens and people can go to pubmed.org and they can see all of them, if you’re a geek like me. And adaptogens were originally discovered by the Russian cosmonauts and they studied the adaptogenic herbs because what was happening was the cosmonauts were going into space and were having a really hard time reacclimating to the earth’s gravitational pull when they returned. And what they found is when they gave them adptogens they were able to adapt and recover. And from there athletes began to use adaptogens and they found they were recovering faster from hard workouts. They were recovering faster from races and so the majority of athletes out there use some kind of adaptogens. They’re just plants and there are many, you know there are hundreds of them literally. And 1 of the one’s in the new enhanced cleanse is this ashwagandha and it is so brilliant. And that’s what allows you if you’re doing everyday cleansing to be able to take the cleanse at night, you know if you do 2 ounces in the morning, 2 ounces at night, adaptogens before bed are wonderful, they’re very calming.

And then of course we have another adaptogen which is the eleuthero and there are some beautiful studies on eleuthero and yellow dock which also has an affinity for the kidneys. So we have so many enhanced ingredients and these again, super herbs, like just unbelievable herbs that really act in different parts of the body. So 1 cannot just do water and expect that that’s going to cleanse. They can’t just do water and lemon and cayenne pepper and maple syrup and expect it’s going to cleanse without muscle eating. Your muscles are going to get eaten. Don’t do it.

And that’s why we have Isagenix. And the other thing is this replaces meals. This is something you can do day in and day out. I know we’re going to talk about everyday cleansing, I’m passionate about those. If you are going to eat everyday, if you’re going to breathe everyday, if you’re going to put on lipstick everyday, [laughter] if you’re going to be exposed everyday, then why wouldn’t you fortify your body? And I know for myself I’m a bit of a neat freak and even though someone comes to clean my house real aggressively twice a week, I do a little bit of everyday cleaning in my house. I’m sure everyone does too. They don’t just leave all the dishes and scrub down their counters and all the things in between the aggressive cleaning. And that’s why it’s the same thing here with Isagenix. So it’s not going to be replaced by anything that you can concoct in your own kitchen.

>>Kjersti: I love that. I think that’s very powerful and you know with the sake for supplementation. I mean there was an article that I received that talks about you know the deficiency of just vitamin B12 and when you were talking about the complexity of Isagenix and the 9 day cleanse being 272 different raw ingredients and the genius that was behind the formulation and it being just absolutely perfect, you know, addressing the cleansing, addressing the replenishing and you know I want to talk just a second on B12, vitamin B12. If you look at any of the products and you check out how much B12 is in you know our products, like I’m just looking at the essentials for women right now. The daily value of B12, we have 5,000% in the 5 capsules of the essentials for women.

And this article that I was reading was talking about the importance of vitamin B12. It’s a requirement for your body’s vital functions, for energy, for blood production and formation, for DNA synthesis, for myelin formation which is kind of like the insulation and the coating on your nerve endings. And most people are walking around deficient in vitamin B12 and so that is just a prime example of the formulation that my dad has created with all of these amazing products, vitamin B12 just being 1 little thing in there and the importance of it and where it stands as far as making sure that people get enough. And so with the cleansing aspects I think its so genius. You talked about it being not just a 1 area in the body cleanse. I love the analogy of the cleaning your house. You know you wouldn’t just clean 1 room of your house.

So let’s break down the everyday cleanse, 1 day of cleansing, 2 days of cleansing and how to really structure it so that you’re getting the most benefit out of it and then of course why you would want to choose an everyday cleanse over a 2 day cleanse and so forth. So let’s start out with everyday cleansing. This is something new that we’ve kind of adopted. I know people have been doing it for a long time but because of the enhancements to the new cleanse it really, truly is now an everyday cleanse if people choose to use the products that way. So ideally what’s the best way or what’s the best regime for everyday cleansing?

>>Susan: That’s a great question, Kjersti and also just with regards, and I get a lot of questions about this, in terms of you know the RDA’s versus you know you see 5,000% of say B vitamin, is to understand the nutritional complexity of this. And that we use a lot of, Isagenix use a lot of B vitamins in things and according to 1 study it was found, according to the CDC, Centers For Disease Control, 99% of American women were B vitamin deficit so that nerve health, also to regulate things like you’re ups and downs in your day and your month girls [laughter] and other things.

And so the B vitamins are water soluble so our need for B vitamins and you know this is going back, I had a client years ago, this was before Isagenix, and she was a nurse. And she was having a really hard time. And you know she was working with me as a last resort before going on a regime that would include some different things to bring her up because she was not really functional. And so we kept elevating her B’s, elevating her B’s and we got her to a point where she felt amazing and she was releasing body fat and she was energized and happy and it saved her relationship and it was just upping these little B vitamins, you know, so incredible and so we have water soluble vitamins and fat soluble vitamins. You’re body’s needs, everyone and this applies to cleansing as well, from day to day are going to be different. If you’re having a really stressful day you might burn through B’s. If you are in your menstruating years the days leading up to menses. You’re requirement for B vitamin goes up 300%. So you know people say to me, is it to high? But your body is going to take what it needs, release what it does not need. And the same thing applies to everyday cleansing is that our exposure to things is going to vary day to day.

You know in a perfect world it would be like the Stepford wives. We just go and we eat the same thing and do the same thing and wear the same thing and it would be like we’re robots. But that’s not life. Life’s an adventure, you know. Chris and the kids are about to you know drive from Canada to Arizona and it’s 7 days and yeah, here I am 8 and a half months pregnant and it’s going to be a big adventure. And we’re going to drive through New York state and Pennsylvania and Ohio and Kansas and you know New Mexico and on and on and on. And you can think of you know being in the car, sitting in the car, sitting in, you know cars, they’ve all been coated with flame retardants because they have to, it’s the law. Think of the factories we’re going to drive through, the factory you know places we’re going to drive through. Different air level qualities, the foods we’re going to eat while we’re on the road.

Even though I’m a vegetarian and we eat really healthy, well sometimes kids are hungry and I absolutely don’t do fast food but you know say we go into the grocery store and we got some veggies and hummus. I don’t have my stuff that I normally would wash the veggies off, you know Kjersti, so you can only imagine you know just the different requirements on the different days. So when we look at everyday cleansing we have to number 1 appreciate the, and I think we can all agree, that our exposure day to day is going to be different. That’s number 1 so we want to fight a good fight. And it’s the same thing as cleaning your house. You know people will spend more time cleaning their house and question cleansing their bodies. It makes me crazy. [laughter] They’ll worry about vacuum lines in the carpet but they question cleansing, I don’t get it.

But anyway, so I am a huge proponent of the 4 ounces and the reason being is because you do 2 ounces in the morning, 2 ounces at night and again for different reasons is 1 is that overnight is when your body does the most healing, it does the most regeneration. As you sleep that’s when hormones are replenished, that’s when muscles are replenished and so when we put these beautiful adaptogens and we put the different herbs and the different things in the body as you sleep then that is going to help support some of those systems overnight as you sleep. And then waking up to have some more cleanse is going to be a phenomenal thing just to go out through your day.

And in the field we’re seeing some incredible benefits just in terms of people releasing stubborn weight, in terms of people looking at cleansing from a vantage point of, you know some people are reporting they have greater energy just in terms of greater mental focus and all of those things that it just you know just by reports of what is coming back. So that daily cleansing is very beneficial and you know and we’re also hearing too, you know, children can you know have you know even a half ounce of cleanse every single day and this can be good for them as well. And you want to of course work with your healthcare practitioner in order to find a good regime for your child. But the everyday cleansing, I’m an advocate of, 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening and by the same token I’m also an advocate of drinking it straight, not mixing it with water. I know that’s a bit contentious but I like, I’m a purist and I believe in so much in what your dad did and I believe so much in the purity of the formula and the integrity of the formula. I believe in not diluting the product with water. I think people should take it straight, preferably on an empty stomach. Wait about 20 minutes, Kjersti, and then go on and have something else. And that is going to beautifully benefit the body.

Plus we have the Ionic alfalfa and alfalfa of course gets it’s roots 30, 40 some varieties 70 feet plus into the earth where it’s able to extract the pure minerals and that’s what you’re dad has done with this formula has these ionic minerals and these minerals just light up the body. Your body is composed of over 90% of minerals and so why not mineralized the body throughout the day? And people say to me, well you know Susan can I sip on the cleanse throughout the day with water? It’s a lot more energy in addition to eating. Yes you can but I’m a purist, like your dad, I hope John’s listening, I think empty stomach [laughter] straight, no water.

>>Kjersti: Yeah I do too. I mean I think that way with the Ionix, Ionix on an empty stomach. Cleanse on an empty stomach. Some people are drinking the cleanse at night like on an empty stomach so let’s say that you’re on the 30 day program, that’s shake, meal, shake, you have your shake at 6:00 and then you know maybe you hit the hay at 10:00 and right before bed people are taking you know 4 ounces of cleanse on an empty stomach with 2 IsaFlush going to bed. And like what you said, I mean there’s a lot of processes that, there’s a lot of regeneration going on in the middle of the night. And I, that’s how I would prefer to take the everyday cleansing. I love it.

But you know what? I’m a lover of the 2 day cleanse and I know we’re getting to that but is there anything else you want to add on that everyday cleansing before we move on to let’s say 1 day of cleansing? I guess I should ask you, who would be the perfect candidate for an everyday cleanse? Because you know there are people that you know maybe couldn’t do a 2 day cleanse so who are those people that would be a great candidate for the everyday cleansing?

>>Susan: I have my sinister laugh, wa ha ha [laughter] because I want to preface this again you know of course you know cleansing, regardless you know 1 should always be working you know with the approval of a healthcare practitioner, I want to bring it back to the house analogy again. Would you only ever lightly dust your house and expect it to stay clean? You’ve got to do a good spring cleaning. Most people do a good spring cleaning, a good fall cleaning. And the everyday cleansing is great and it’s easy but it’s not a substitute for 2 back to back cleanse days. Your father even says, on those 2 back to back cleanse days, 20% of the cleansing is done on day 1, 80% on day 2 and yes I know it’s challenging but I’m going to liken it to this. Let’s say you wanted to just get a beautiful physique. You want to be ripped. I know Lenny Evans is training [laughter] for the IsaBody Challenge. So let’s say you want to just be really just looking amazing for the IsaBody challenge, well guess what? You’re going to have to go through a period of intensity to build that lean, beautiful body but after you build it then you can get by with doing some daily maintenance. So this is not a substitute. [laughter] And I want to be clear on this, this is not a substitute for doing your 2 back to back cleanse days.

If you really want to benefit from Isagenix and I’m not talking weight loss. Weight loss is, that’s lovely but it’s only 1 of many, many benefits of Isagenix. Isagenix is not a weight loss program. This is a cleansing program with 1 of the benefits being releasing body fat. So you’ve got to do these 2 back to back cleanse days and you’ve got to suck it up and you’ve got to do them and do your 5 shake days and then 2 cleanse days and then after that go in to your daily cleansing. But I’m still an advocate that a couple times a year, Kjersti, you’ve got to do that deep cleansing. You would do the same thing with your house, you would do the same thing with your car. You know you put clean oil in your car to run your car but you know a couple times you’ve got to change those filters, you’ve got to get rid of all the old oil and it’s more intense, it takes longer and it’s a bit of a pain but it is so worth it because your automobile runs so much more efficiently. Everyone does this for so many affects of their life. It’s the same thing for their body. People can get through the 2 back to back days and I know it’s challenging but you’re talking to someone who you know did the Ironman with a fractured pelvis and you know ran the Boston Marathon as a mom of 3 little kids. So yeah but the benefits outweigh that oh I feel hungry or whatever the case is.

So everyday cleansing is a great way to start. People with a shake and cleanse pack you know to just get them acclimated to Isagenix, they’re going to do a little bit of gentle cleansing. You know I love the shakes and it’s just, you know I want everyone to understand the shakes are a food, they’re a beautiful food. I give them to all my kids. They all have a shake for breakfast. I have 2 or 3 shakes a day. Chris has 5 or 6 shakes a day. This is not a substitute by any stretch of the imagination for our more accelerated program. It’s a great way to introduce people. It’s a great thing to do in between cleansing but a couple times a year you’ve got to do the deep cleanse.

>>Kjersti: Yeah, I love that. I think that the deep cleansing there is no substitute and I love your whole analogy on again the house and the light dusting and it’s just not going to cut it. The deep cleansing is amazing and you know I’ve also actually you know for elderly people, people that take maybe some medications that have to eat with their medications you know of course they’ll be working with their healthcare provider as they’re going through Isagenix but the everyday cleanse for them to start off with is I think idea. Now Susan the 1 day cleanse, I’m sorry, the 1 day a week cleansing like the 30 day program you now where people might be doing, some people do a 9 day cleanse within their first 30 days of using their 30 day program but then there’s other people that are doing 1 day a week for their cleansing. What would be the idea situation there and you know when would you choose to do cleansing 1 day a week?

>>Susan: There’s a lot of great times to do cleansing 1 day a week and 1 of the things, the groups I love for cleansing 1 day a week are athletes. Let’s say realistically an athlete is listening to this and they’re in their season. It’s triathlon season, it’s marathon season, it’s you know training for football camp season, it’s soccer or whatever it is for you and you know to do the 2 back to back cleanse days right now where you’re at is just not a possibility. I mean if you’re a body builder you know getting your cutting phase in, yeah do the back to back cleansing. But for an athlete on the resting a beautiful thing to do is the cleansing because the impurities build up you know with training, the muscles get torn down, there’s a lot of different processes going in the body that can cause some discomfort. So when I’m training for a marathon I cleanse on my rest day and I’ll train 6 days a week and on that rest day, which is usually a Monday or a very light workout day, I’ll do a 1 day cleanse and it helps me to feel lighter, leaner, recover faster. I feel great, I feel super energized. I mean it’s just amazing. And so athletes it’s a great guide to do 1 cleanse day a week.

Another group of people that it’s phenomenal to do 1 cleanse day a week are you know and this is a confessional, are you a person who on the weekend tends to indulge? And it’s going into summer and it’s barbecue season and you know [laughter] are you the person who maybe eats that extra burger or has that extra ice cream cone on the weekends or maybe has some parties and a very active social life. One day of cleansing is perfect on Monday to compensate for all that indulging that you did and give your body a little break. You know we have Memorial Day coming up in the United States. Many people are going to overeat, overindulge. Well why feel rotten about it? I don’t like to live in a place of guilt whatsoever. So you know on Tuesday after the long weekend that is a great time to do a 1 day cleanse.

Other people who can benefit from 1 day cleansing, let’s say for instance, we know that you know sometimes our teams struggle with being you know overweight and having obesity issues and maybe because they’re going to school or they’ve just go things going on, you know again that’s another great group that can do 1 day of cleansing. They’re not going to get the same deep results as they would with the 2 back to back cleanse days but you want to do something that you know socially is going to really fit in. You know I remember being a teenager. It was the most uncomfortable [laughter] time of my life. But it is you know it is easier and they’re still going to get quite a bit of benefits.

There are lots of people who do it but if you’re 1 of those summer party people you are a perfect candidate to do 1 day cleansing. And people say should I still do everyday cleansing? Absolutely. Think of that everyday cleanse as you know getting all these minerals and these wonderful herbs and vitamins and like you mentioned the B vitamins. Just think about it like your daily shot of Ionix. It’s the exact same thing. So in an ideal world if you were going to frame it all together, my recommendation is a couple times a year to really do more deep cleansing or what I call the accelerated program. And it doesn’t stop thinking about it like weight loss. You’ve already stopped thinking about it like that. Think about it like you know 1 of my friends and mentors talks about a mental fast where you don’t watch CNN, you don’t read the newspaper and all sorts of things for 30 days so that you can reset your mind. So you’re a positive person. You’re focusing on all the possibilities in your life and think about like this is just resetting your body. It’s like a computer program for your body that’s doing a big scan and resetting all the systems. So a couple of times a year you know you definitely, that’s when you want to do that. And then to do a little bit of cleansing on every day.

If you’re indulging on the weekend, you know we talked about teenagers, if you’re athletes, you’re a great candidate for 1 day a week cleansing. What upsets me as you know as a nutritionist is when people come in to Isagenix and let’s say they have 15, 20, 30 plus pounds to release and they say well I’m just going to cleanse once a week on the 30 day. Well they’re not going to get the same results. The original cleanse that was tested was tested at the UCLA medical center and it was the 9 day and that’s where the average weight loss is 7 to 15 pounds and that study is in our online office, on the 9 day. Why would you set someone up for failure?

Stock them up for success. Get them doing their warm up phase, their pre-cleanse and then put them into that 9 day portion and then the cool down phase and then from there take them, you know if they’re really close to their goal, take them either into another 30 day where they’re doing 1 cleanse day a week or take them into everyday cleansing. One example is my neighbor April. I did a home party last week and April was here and she was showing us her before pictures and I coached her to releasing over 100 pounds and we’re going to get her story to the 100 pound club because she looks like a super model now, just a beautiful girl. And we started her off with the accelerated program and she did 2 back to back 9 days and then she went into a 30 day and she just kept doing 1 cleanse day a week, 1 cleanse day a week, 1 cleanse day a week and then every 12 weeks she did you know 2 back to back 9 days and you know released 100 pounds and to this day now she does 2 shakes a day and a little bit of cleanse everyday and she’s running 5 to 6 miles a day you know 5 times a week, Kjersti. She’s just so much energy for her kids. You know just a love of life, she’s volunteering. And that’s the program we put her into. So please don’t set people up for failure. Set them up for success and really and truly those 2 back to back cleanse days, you can get through them.

There’s a lot of information out there and just different things on the website you know like not just the Isagenix website just out there in web land you know about you know how do you do these 2 back to back cleanse days. The Isagenix snack wafers are there for a reason and they’re there to stabilize blood glucose levels because of the combination of 40/30/30%. Forty percent carbohydrate, 30 percent protein, 30 percent fat and they’re perfect. You know you don’t, you know some celery, some cucumbers, I know your dad advocates you know even some organic lettuce. All of those things are very localized ischemic, some raw almonds. I know Dr. Harper talks about raw walnuts and he’s talked to your dad about that as well. You know raw walnuts and almonds are lovely. Make sure they are raw and not the roasted, salty kind. And what this is gonna do is it’s gonna allow your body to really rest and replenish and you know if you’re craving something warm, some no caffeine peppermint tea is something I’ll say to people. Or jump in an Epsom salt bath, my goodness. But you can do it. A lot of it is psychological. We don’t have problems overeating but the truth is the vast majority of people eat way too much. This is a rest for your body.

It’s not a time to eat egg whites. It’s not a time to eat a chicken breast. It’s not a time to eat a piece of toast. You’re body, you will ruin the cleanse. You’re definitely, definitely not cleansing when you’re doing that and yes it is challenging but live into the rewards of it. How great are you gonna feel? How energized are you gonna feel? How excited are you gonna feel when you know those pants are loose or you’re you know just feeling like a million bucks. So get through it, be diligent and you know just a couple times a year.

>>Kjersti: Yeah and you know what I’ve found is that day 1 is definitely harder than day 2. Day 1 is like oh de do de do and then you know you wake up, you feel like a million bucks on day 2 and day 2 is a breeze. I mean that’s because and my dad always says the magic happens in the second day of the cleanse because hormones have balanced. Glucose levels are balanced. You know a lot of things take place in the first 24 hours. The second 24 hours, you know, which is day 2, it’s amazing to see that’s then the deep, deep cleansing really starts to really set up.

You know Susan I love that you bring it up but if you’re going to eat like some egg whites or you know a banana or you know a piece of toast. You’ve just stopped the cleansing process. I remember my dad telling some people on a conference call about this 1 time. You’ve just stopped the cleansing process. Your body has now focused its attention from cleansing. Now it’s shifted on to the digestion process. All your energy will go into the digestion and to break down the foods that you just brought in. Whereas maybe let’s say a stick of celery that is very, you know, like 95 percent water. Maybe you can talk about what are the safe things to be able to, like I say indulge on, on a cleanse day maybe 1 or 2 times or something during the day that won’t affect the cleansing process?

>>Susan: As I said you know cucumbers, celery, you know your dad says lettuce. And if you’re thinking oh my gosh you know Susan and John are really hard core. [laughter] You have to understand where we came from. John not only is the mineral man. In my mind he’s the protein man because John designed some of the original formulations for Joe Weider back in the 80’s. Joe Weider is the founder of the muscle and fitness empire, also very good friends with Governor Schwarzenegger who when he was competing in bodybuilding. When I was first getting in to track and field I was a vegetarian. And I had been very overweight as a kid. And by the time I was 10 years old I was 140 pounds and a woman’s size 14. And I started running to get the weight off and I had always had challenges with my weight and then being a vegetarian on top of that. Just because you’re a vegetarian doesn’t make you’er skinny because pasta, girl you could eat a lot of that.

[laughter] But the first protein patterns were designed actually by your dad and they were brilliant because they also combine minerals and different things and didn’t use artificial sweeteners or anything, which weren’t very popular at the time. And at that time, in terms of the body building world, we really, and track and field and different things, we really focused on if you were getting that lean physique that you wanted to take your body to a state where it was not processing sugars that were coming in externally. And so when someone eats for instance grapes or bananas or high sugar things, even red peppers, on cleanse days the body is now processing those. It’s going to elevate the blood glucose levels and then the blood glucose levels are going to drop and that’s going to cause the person to be even hungrier. So absolutely, [laughter] absolutely not but in terms of you know like you just said and it may sound like oh my gosh this is kind of boring, well again live into what you want. And 1 of the things I say you know and have said to people in terms of body transformation if what you’re doing is working so well then why are you, you know what are you complaining about? And the truth is that yes, it is going to be a little challenging just like a tough workout but guess what? The rewards are so great because you’re going to come out the other side and feel amazing so just tough it out. [laughter]

>>Kjersti: I could not agree with you more. I think that you know toughing it out and really not focusing on the weight loss but focusing on the benefits of the cleansing and what’s going on internally. I think that if we could actually see at a cellular level you know the proof like underneath the scope in a lab you know like ooh, all the changes that took place in just the 9 day cleanse, we would be flabbergasted and we would probably you know become chronic cleansers. [laughter] You know like we’re addicted because it is, it’s amazing what happens and obviously we see the outward appearance of what’s going on and of course how we feel and our energy and the way we think and so forth. I think it’s pretty amazing stuff.

>>Susan: I would like to recommend a book for people for lay people and I just did a women’s retreat and this is something I recommend. The book is Prescription for Nutritional Healing and it’s by Dr. James and Phyllis Balch, B-a-l-c-h, and it’s available at you know Wal-Mart, Costco, that kind of thing, Amazon, Prescription for Nutritional Healing. What I want everyone to do, I want you to go and I want you to look at every ingredient in the national accelerator and cross reference them like look up podearko in there, look up cayenne pepper, look up cinnamon in there. Your mind will be blown, ok if you look up and understand all of these ingredients, look up yellow dock, everything. Because in this book it tells you what every mineral, what herb, aloe, everything does in the body. And when you start to understand, if you, and this is why Jim Rhodes and I cannot do a product presentation. They’re like you ought to present the 30 day in 15 minutes. Jim and I are like, we can’t because you have to understand the complexity of what we have here. There is nothing like it on the planet.

I received an email and they were like well this other network marketing company is doing cleanse. I’m like so what? I looked at the ingredients and I was laughing. Like what we have here, what John designed, oh my goodness, so get that book, cross reference the ingredients, you’re mind is going to be blown. The bottom line is if all you ever did from listening to this call is 4 ounces of cleanse a day and 2 shakes a day and 1 or 2 light meals for the rest of your life your health would definitely, you’d feel better you know. It really is the fountain of youth like Don talks about. But by the same token if you want to take it to the next level you know a couple of times a year do the accelerator cleanse and if you are indulging especially over the summer, Christmas time, times of the year, do that 1 day cleanse. That’s the bottom line and these products work. Chris and I have been using the products for 5 and a half years, our whole family is on the products, we’re never going off these products, these are the best, the best, the best and you know if you want proof, look at Jimmy Smith. That man gets younger every year. [laughter]

>>Kjersti: I was actually talking to someone about that the other day with someone. I was saying, I think Jimmy looks younger today than when I met him 7 years ago. I mean his skin, I mean that guy has not aged and it’s amazing to me. I know how much Isagenix he takes everyday and it would be like, woe you take how much? But I think it’s great. He loves it. Anybody that has not met Jimmy or you’ve not seen Jimmy in person, he’s 81, yeah he’s 81 now. And when he gets called to stage he does not like walk to stage with a cane. The guy sprints, I mean he sprints, his hair is like bouncing and he goes up on stage with springs in his knees, I swear and you know he’s so young.

He’s definitely set a good example for me and what I want to be when I’m his age. He’s currently right now in Australia traveling the world, supporting everybody down under and I think that for an 81 year old man to be able to make that flight, to feel great and to be able to do what he’s doing at this age, I think it’s phenomenal. And certainly he really feels he’s found the fountain of youth. [laughter]

>>Susan: I think harps play and angels sing when Jimmy walks by.

>>Kjersti: Oh that is so cute. [laughter] Jimmy, I hope you’re listening. There’s a couple of other things that I want you to touch on before we wrap it up and 1 of the things is that now you’ve broke down the everyday, 1 day, 2 day, what to do what not to do. But water consumption is 1 of the things I want you to talk about and secondly our new shakes. I know we’re about 5 weeks away from launching our new shakes. I want to get your opinion on that. We can kind of tell everybody what to expect but let’s talk about water intake.

>>Susan: Absolutely, water intake is so, so key. And 1 of the things I advocate in IsaBody Beautiful is half an ounce per pound of desired body weight. So if you’re looking at, say you desired to be 150 pounds, I’m just going to do easy math. That would be 75 ounces, that’s 7 and a half 10 oz glasses. That’s nothing. That’s minimum. If someone is really active you know or if you have a great amount of weight to lose then you can take it up to as much as say an ounce per pound of desired body weight, that’s the bottom line, underscore, underscore, desired body weight.

When I was training body builders and I know John you know knows way more about this than I do but I was training natural body builders and these guys were getting you know just ripped and cut, just these lean, beautiful physiques. Some of my guys were drinking you know 6 to 8 liters of water a day and people say well is that too much? You can get hyponatremia. No you need more water than that to get hyponatremia. Now if you’re living in a hot climate, you know like AZ, Nevada, like a hot dry climate or you are exercising a lot, watch your water intake because you should be peeing clear. That’s what the goal is is to pee clear. And these impurities need a super highway to flush out of your body. You want to create the Niagara Falls of body flushing and so make sure that you do keep that water intake nice and high.

And there are things that will confound the cleanse. Artificial sweeteners, oh my gosh, poison. On the FDA website there are 94 listed side effects of artificial sweetener. Get on that website, take a look. That’s not Susan Sly, that’s the FDA. Don’t — you know people are like, oh I put NutraSweet in tea. No, you don’t do that. I just put Crystal Light in my water or my cleansing, no you just wrecked your cleanse, you’re crazy. Don’t do that. Why don’t I tell you how I really feel, Kjersti. [laughter] The carbonated drinks, that kind of thing, is not a substitute for water. The only water substitute — as I said, if you want some peppermint tea, absolutely have some peppermint tea. It’s not going to hurt you. Make sure it’s not caffeinated you know, the herbal teas that are not caffeinated, that are unsweetened, that are just perfectly natural.

If you wanted a little chamomile tea before bed, go for it. But you know absolutely no, no, no substitutes for water other than that. And if you’re looking for something you want to add to your water, add some lemon juice. You can add lemon juice to your water. That’s not going to hurt you whatsoever. So different things you can do with water but keep that water intake high and especially coming into the summer months, especially if you’re listening to this and you know you do exercise or you do suffer from any discomfort in your body like joint discomfort. That can often be related to lack of water intake. There are even clinical studies out there that illustrate that people who don’t get enough water have a harder time releasing body fat. So watch that water intake. Make sure in the summer months your kids get lots of water.

If you’re not cleansing and you’re not you know on a cleanse day, Want More Energy is a wonderful thing to add to water because again those B vitamins, those electrolytes, those minerals are just an incredible, incredible thing. You know when Chris and I are driving across America, everyone is going to be sipping on Want More Energy. Why would I give my kids something that was, you know blue or red or pink or whatever. [laughter] Want More Energy is natural, it’s beautiful. Your dad designed it for Evander Holyfield as a sports drink. But it’s such an incredible product so that’s another great way to get water when you’re not cleansing.

>>Kjersti: I love that, I absolutely love that and not all water is created equally either. I mean don’t you think people should be drinking filtered water, good quality water, water that is free of you know harmful chemicals and impurities like city water. City water is insane, the number of studies done on city water so what do you recommend? If someone lives in the city and they have city water coming through their taps, what would you recommend as you know a source. Just like maybe a Brita filter pitcher or you know something else?

>>Susan: I recommend that everyone get their water tested. Because the truth is the water in Atlanta would be different than the water in LA or the water in Wisconsin or the water in, you know [laughter] Saskatchewan or Hong Kong. So what we want to do is number 1, get your water tested. I’m a huge believer in that. Don’t just get it tested once. Get it tested you know at least annually. Chris and I currently live in a subdivision and we use only organic natural things on our lawn but we have neighbors who use pesticides so we definitely have a water filtration system. We use RO, I know your dad’s a huge fan of that, which is reverse osmosis, because the Isagenix products provide so many minerals for the body, you know it’s not going to leach out the minerals out of your body.

There are a lot of very good filtration systems out there and you know I have spoken openly about water before and someone emailed me and said, well that’s not true. There isn’t you know arsenic and lead and gasoline in water and I said well you know it varies city to city so I’m not going to say that it isn’t true. So get your water tested then what you want to do is do your due diligence and look at a good water filtration system but not just to take out things like heavy metals. Make sure that your filtration system also deals with things like hormones and pesticides, byproducts, chemicals and even of course bacteria and the obvious things. So do your due diligence, check it out but get your water tested first.

>>Kjersti: Excellent, well very, very cool. And then last but not least is the shakes. I know that the shake’s are going to be soon to be released and you know what has been enhanced with the shakes so the best shakes in the world just got better, in my opinion, so what are some of your favorite key features and what do all of our listeners have forward to looking to when these new shakes are launched?

>>Susan: Well I don’t want people to stop taking their shake’s right now. [laughter] That’s the first and foremost thing. The new shakes are delicious. They are amazing. Your kids will love them. Oh my gosh, they’ll just love them. The whey is new and enhanced. It’s just as clean as it was before. No antibiotics, steroids, hormones, growth hormones, that kind of thing. And growth hormone, I want to just say this as well that growth hormones are banned by the world health organization and America is 1 of only a handful of countries that actually allow bovine growth hormone in the dairy where as Isagenix gets the whey from New Zealand where bovine growth hormone is banned so there’s no BGH in there. But the new shakes have of course our Ionic alfalfa and I don’t want to give too much away. I’ll just say, you know, everyone in these summer months, get on 2 shakes a day, personally, for sure at least 2 but the 1 thing that’s a really cool feature about the new shakes is the lactose is so small. Like even in the shakes we have now there’s just very little lactose but in the new shake the lactose is so minute. It’s just very teeny, tiny and of course we’ve added the lactase which is the enzyme that helps the body digest lactose, which is milk sugar and the ratio is just chemically perfect that is cancels it out.

So when I was on a training call with your dad the other day what he was saying is these shakes are virtually lactose free. So people who were a little bit sensitive are just going to totally not be sensitive now. And the truth is that humans, all humans between the ages of 18 months and 4 and a half years, all of their ability to digest lactose goes. So we are virtually all lactose intolerant. However some people, depending on their background, their ethnic background, more Europeans may be able to process dairy with a lot more ease then say for instance, Asians, Hispanics, different groups, myself included. So I never had problems with our current shake but I’m very much looking forward to the new and enhanced shake.

But I would say to everyone you know until that comes out, drink lots of shakes now and I guarantee if you do make Isagenix your food. I mean my husband, he’s going to kill me for saying this, June 7th he’s turning 40 but you know he was visiting with some of his friends and he looks the youngest, he has the most muscle of all of his friends. And this guy is drinking, seriously 4, 5, 6 shakes every single day, Kjersti. He looks like a million bucks.

I’ve known him since I was 13 years old and he has a better body now then he did when we were in high school, if you can only imagine that. And that’s because this beautiful IsaLean protein we have and these IsaLyte minerals. So I challenge everyone listening to this to get on 2 to 3 shakes a day. I’m a huge fan of doing a scoop of IsaLean, a scoop of IsaPro, the IsaFruits and the greens. Do that 2 or 3 times a day, just like I wrote about in the book and oh my gosh, you’re going to feel like a million bucks. You’re not going to be hungry. You’re going to have tons of energy. You’ll build muscle and you’ll be buff and you know. I can’t take responsibility for what happens after that because Chris and I thought we were done at 2 children but we’re on number 4 now so [laughter].

>>Kjersti: I know, that’s so cool. You guys don’t look like you — I think when I see you and Chris I think you know maybe late 20’s. So you guys are just very youthful. You guys have done a great job taking care of your body and it’s been so much fun having you on tonight. Kjersti Coté Kjersti Coté International Conference Call Coordinator and Host

Kjersti Coté (pronounced KEER-stee KOH-tee) is the daughter of Isagenix Founder and Master Formulator, John Anderson. She has been an Isagenix member since the company began in March 2002.

In addition to coordinating and hosting our weekly conference calls, Kjersti is an author and wellness & cleansing coach.

Kjersti resides in Northwest Montana with her husband Jeff and their 3 beautiful children, Alexa, Tyler and Zachary.
