You love the products, but how can you maximize your results when you’re using an Isagenix® system? Tune in to hear from 2-Star Golden Circle and Scientific Advisory Board Member Dr. Dennis Harper for his top advice for ultimate health success.

>> Alright, well good evening everyone and welcome to our Thursday night product training with Isagenix. My name is Kjersti Cote, your host, and it’s an absolute pleasure to be here with all of you. We have a very fun and very informative call in store for all of you tonight. Obviously tonight’s call is all about giving you information to maximize your success with your Isagenix systems and programs that you’re on.

And here with us tonight to bring you all this amazing information is Dr. Dennis Harper. He is a man who has been a part of Isagenix for quite some time. And I don’t know, Dennis, I know I’m gonna have you share your story in just a second but, Dr. Harper is not only the chairman of our Scientific Advisory Board but he is a 2-Star Golden Circle in Isagenix. And just a little bit about Dr. Harper’s backgrounds. He has been in general medical practice for about 23 years and almost 2 decades, nearly close to 2 decades of that being devoted to the practice of complementary medicine. And a little fun note here is, Dr. Harper was one of three people that spoke to Senator Hatch and got the DSHEA Act started which is an act that saves the health food industry from over regulation by the FDA. And this is a very, very crucial, crucial act, I feel, for all of us as we all enjoy taking supplement each and everyday and certainly gaining better health.

Dr. Harper was the student body president of his medical school, also a voting member of the American Osteopathic Association. He also was president of Physicians for Progressive Medicine and second vice president for the Utah Osteopathic Association. And something that was, I really feel is a lot of fun for Dr. Harper is that he was a member of the licensing board for the State of Utah and then was actually chairman for that licensing board as well at one point in time, and he’s an author. He has been very instrumental in helping to educate people on their bodies and Isagenix as this company has been growing. So we’re grateful to you, Dr. Harper, and with that good evening and welcome to the call.

>> Well, it’s good to be here tonight.

>> Yeah, great to have you. Please excuse my voice, everyone. You know it’s kind of funny, I woke up Tuesday morning and had, you know, a bit of a hoarse voice and I promise I wasn’t screaming or anything, so I don’t know what’s going on. But, Dr. Harper, I know there are a lot of people listening in that are brand new to Isagenix. We’ve got like, you know, around 5 to 600 people joining the company weekly and I know that number is, you know, going up each and every week. And there are a lot of people that are just getting started on Isagenix and just getting into their first program, and of course we also have a lot of people on the line that are leaders and Isagenix people that are coaching people through these amazing systems. And so, if you could just take a few minutes before we jump into any questions and share your story in how you got involved in Isagenix.

>> Okay. Well, we’ll try to make this quick ’cause I know that we’re gonna–we’ll run into a little deadline here otherwise. But, about 7 years ago my brother brought this into my practice and said this is a wonderful product and then I needed to give it to all my patients. And it was an up and coming company and it was gonna be very, very helpful. And at that point, my brother hadn’t even tried the product yet so it was kind of interesting that he would even say that. But I did know that at that time I could either continue to talk to him for about 45 minutes or just buy the product and then he would probably leave me alone. So I did, I bought the product.

I probably put it on my shelf, never used it. And then he did come back a month later to see if I tried it. I told him that I had not. He still had not used the product yet, but he was telling me how wonderful it is. So I said, okay I will, I’ll try it, but I don’t believe it will work because there’s no way that you can lose 15 pounds in 9 days as what he was telling me at the time. So I have a little device on my office called the Tanita body analyzer. And I measured my body, total body fat, total body water and lean body mass before I started and then I went ahead and did the initial 9 day cleanse because at that time that was the only thing that we had. And I watched my body as it changed, and by the end of the 9 days I had indeed lost 15 pounds. I had lost 8 pounds of water, 6 pounds of fat and 1 pound of lean body mass, and so I was very shocked and surprised. And so I was surprise a lot.

My wife just came in and she kinda distracted me a little bit. But I then went on to the maintenance part of it ’cause I expected, well yeah, it was a diuretic ’cause I lost 8 pounds of water. And then when I went on to the next week of the maintenance program, I expected that 8 pounds to come back and it didn’t. What happened is I lost an additional 3 pounds and my muscle mass returned to normal. After an additional 3 weeks being on the maintenance, I lost a total of 22 pounds of excess fat and water and I increased my muscle mass by 3 pounds. So, I actually lost a total of 25 pounds but increased my muscle mass by 3 pounds. So that’s very amazing, and for a doctor to look at this and realize this is impossible for this to work the way it was working for me and not being able to explain it was very intriguing to me, so I started using it on my patients.

>> That is amazing and I know that you are, you know, going into it, a skeptic, you know to prove it wrong and had amazing results. And of course, putting a lot of patients on it did you–I bet you saw some amazing things happening with your patients?

>> Well I have, [laughter] and we can’t talk about any of them because we want the clients here. [Simultaneous talking] But the point is it’s amazing to see–What I did with my patients, I started using the Isagenix as a last resort. When people would come in and then I would treat them every–the best way I could, and if we run out of options then I would give them the Isagenix and suggest they try them. And we got such good results with my patients.

And that eventually after about 6 months I realized, no, this thing, it would be the first thing I use rather than the last thing. So after about 6 months I reversed that and started telling every single new patient that came in, “This is one of the considerations as far as therapies as well as additional things.” And then we would let the–between the two of us, we would decide which therapy they wanted to use, but I would always let them know about Isagenix to begin with because it did prove to be such valuable to them.

>> Yeah. You know, I don’t know what the history is on this but, you know, it seems to me that–you know there’s been a lot of network marketing companies that have come and gone ’cause then there’s a lot of nutritional companies out there. You being a doctor, you know, and being in practice for so many years, I’m sure you saw a lot of people coming in and saying, “Oh doc, you gotta take a look at this, take a look at that.”

You know what I’m seeing in Isagenix and certainly I don’t have a lot of experience with network marketing and nutritional companies, but are you saying that there’s such a gigantic, you know, huge percentage of doctors and healthcare practitioners that are actually taking a look coming from a place of skepticism, rolling into Isagenix and for the first time feeling comfortable, you know, prescribing basically nutritional supplements to their patients. I mean, what’s your thought on this?

>> Oh, absolutely. This is one of the things that we’ve been watching over the years as physicians become less and less happy with their current practice, and as they start to–they’re a little bit afraid to introduce nutritional products into their practice. But if they do so and as they watch the changes that take place with their patients, you can actually see and hear in their voice how they start getting excited about the things they’re seeing because these are not the things that you see with the patients when you’re dealing with just medications. I’ll still use medications but I use them as a last resort, never as the first resort anymore. And as I start using nutritional products like the ones in Isagenix and start seeing the changes in the way patients–how it affects their health and mental and everything else, they literally start getting excited because they realize all of a sudden they really and truly are helping patients as opposed to just covering up symptoms with medications.

So, it’s kind of a very intriguing way of bringing people into it. However, still doctors are very slow to change. That’s, you gotta remember it took me 3 years to change because I threw away a quarter of a million dollar worth of money in regards to my education, as well as 9 years of education is like, “Hmm, that’s tough to do.” Now admittedly it’s still beneficial to me but not in the direction that originally it was going. So, changing into an alternative healthcare provider or a complementary healthcare provider or even using nutrition in your practice is still frowned upon by the majority of the medical community. But, a lot of those people are breaking away because the patients are demanding it. And as they demand it, then some of the better physicians quite frankly are turning to nutritional approaches.

>> Right. Well, that’s absolutely amazing and I’m glad to see that happened especially, you know, I don’t know–Anybody on the line listening in, if you have not seen “Food Matters” which is the movie, it’s about 80 minutes in length, you have got to go rent it, order it online, watch it online. I think you can watch it online for free, and that was a real eye opener to me when I saw that for the very first time. Okay, so doc–Yes, did you wanna comment on that?

>> You mean on Food Matters?

>> Yeah, yeah.

>> Any additional information you can get, it’s amazing how many books have been written and how many DVDs are available, how many CDs are available after the talk about nutrition. And the reason why Isagenix is different is because, 7 years ago it was cutting edge, it’s still cutting edge right now. So, nobody’s even come close to what Isagenix can do in 7 years since this company has been in practice or in operation. And it shows that we’re still in the forefront even after 7 years, this shows how advanced Isagenix has and still will continue to be.

>> Boy, that is exciting, I know. And you know, and I know that we have a team of people that are actually looking at science and looking at advancements in technology when it comes of these formulations, so hence obviously the enhancements for the cleanse for life and so forth. So, I know that it’s gonna be very cool to see what’s gonna happen over the next decade. Well, I wanna jump into these questions and I wanna base tonight’s call on a 30-day program ’cause this is the most popular program in Isagenix.

It’s very complete, it’s everything that you need in the 30-day period of time. It delivers amazing results as all of our programs do, but this one is a little bit more intense because it supplements two out of your three meals a day with delicious shakes. And of course, the whole thing for tonight is to have Dr. Harper deliver some extra tips that you can actually make sure that your checklist, you know, to enhance and to maximize the results that you’re going to be getting as you’re moving to your program. So number 1, Dr. Harper, is obviously as people are using this amazing program, let’s talk about the three things that are outside of this 30-day, and that would be water, rest, and exercise. So, let’s start off with the water. What is your suggestion here?

>> Okay, this is a really important concept, is water, because most of us are dehydrated and so taking at least 64 ounces of water a day is a really, really good idea. Now obviously you can become water intoxicated as well if you start drinking a gallon and a half or 2 gallons of water, that’s not a good idea either. So, somewhere between 64 ounces to a gallon of water a day, depending on where you’re living and how much exercising you’re doing, is a really good idea. But, it comes back to I would not recommend tap water. The tap water unfortunately in many cities right now is fairly contaminated and not just with pesticides and herbicides but also medications, as well as heavy metals and so it’s like, not a good choice.

I personally prefer to use reverse osmosis water or distilled water. Some of the bottled waters are okay, but the problem is with the plastics and then if they–and if they get hot, then the dioxins can actually leach out of the plastics and get into the waters, as well as some other chemicals. So, it’s not–it’s not the best way to get. It’s best if you can get it on a glass bottle. But I do personally prefer the reverse osmosis and the distilled. It’s a little bit acidic but, you know, those things can be fixed as well.

>> And now what–you know one little extra side note on there. I know that you guys, you’ve done some extensive research on a hydration and, you know, for people that are chronically walking around dehydrated that have been poor water drinkers, you know, for many years. What are some of the things that they’re looking at as far as hydration goes? I know that you can’t just guzzle water, I know it’s a sipping process to constantly kind of get a little come in into the body to kinda–Let’s talk about like some salt. I’ve heard that Mediterranean salt actually increases the hydration process, is that true?

>> Well, any type of sea salt would be helpful. Now, you just take a little pinch before you have your drink and then just [inaudible] we’re trying just a little bit. And it seems to help with hydration and lot of people that had become dehydrated actually ends up with edema, which is interesting because it’s like–and they have high blood pressure, they have edema and the reason is because they’re dehydrated. It’s not because they have too much water. But, at the same time we have to be a little bit careful with the salt because salt, since it does have sodium, then it can increase water retention. So, it’s something that people have to kind of look at on an individual basis in case by case and see whether or not it affects them. Doctor, well let’s see, Batman is what we used to call him, but Batmanghelidj. I think is his true name and he wrote a major book about the body’s many cries for water, and that would be something to look into if people have more information because he firmly–well, he was the doctor in a prison and a I think it was in Iran, and the only medication they gave him to give to his patients was water. That’s all he had. He was absolutely flabbergasted at how many things got better just by giving people adequate water.

>> That’s amazing.

>> The water is very, very critical. Do not get dehydrated.

>> Well, next let’s talk about rest and this is a biggie. I didn’t realize how big of a deal rest was and to get adequate amounts. So, what’s the scoop on getting enough rest?

>> Well, they’ve determined that if you’re not getting good rest while you’re sleeping at night, it also interferes with your ability to lose weight, as well as it interferes with human growth hormone levels and rejuvenation of other hormones in your body as well. So it’s important that you do rest well during the nighttime as you get in the correct stage of sleep and that you get at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep at night. And your body will kind of tell you which one it is that you need, whether it’s 8 or 10. If you start going less than 8, you start running into a little situation of being deprived of sleep and that’s not a good idea. Things that can also be a little bit of a problem here is sleep apnea. Many people have sleep apnea and aren’t even aware of it. This is where their body literally starts fighting for oxygen while they’re sleeping. They sleep and so deeply that their bodies are fighting for oxygen and they stop breathing, and they actually battle death every single night. So when they wake up in the morning, one of the hallmarks of that is they’re just tired when they wake up. It’s like, “Gee, I just don’t even feel like I got any rest at all.” That’s one of the hallmarks. They gonna have high blood pressure from that. They can have waking from that. There’s any number of other disease processes that are associated with just sleep apnea and so, that’s very important to make sure that you’re getting a good night’s rest.

>> Alright. Well now next is exercise or fitness, some sort of–you know of activity that people can do daily throughout the week. And how important is exercise?

>> Exercise is another very, very important part of keeping a good healthy body–like you always heard whatever–what you don’t use, you’ll lose, and that’s true. If you’re just sitting around watching TV, I am sorry, your muscle mass is deteriorating because you’re not requiring any muscular activity. You have to get up and do something to maintain your muscle mass. And so I’m not a fond believer in running because about 50 percent of runners tend to get injured. But, a good brisk walk is very, very healthy for people and also is very safe. The best exercise that I like is actually just jumping on a trampoline, and you can get the little ones inside or the big ones are even better on the outside. And if you can get up to a half an hour, obviously, you can start it half an hour. But if you get up to about half an hour of jumping on a trampoline a day, that is the very best exercise you could do. The next one would probably be a good brisk walk once again, at least half an hour. You get up to a half an hour [inaudible]. And when I’m talking about brisk, I mean you can’t–you can talk but you can’t really talk for very long. You’re actually pushing your body without running, so. Yes, exercise is very important. Weightlifting is really good as far as building muscle mass, but not so much endurance. So, jumping on a trampoline, walking along with maybe weightlifting everyday would be a really good choice.

>> Yeah, that’s great. And you know, I heard that–you talked about, you know, the amazing benefits to jumping on a trampoline like the little round ones that you can actually just–you know scoot underneath your bed when you’re not using them.

>> Oh, yeah.

>> And how fantastic it is for just your lymphatic system alone for jumping on that trampoline?

>> It cleans out your lymph tissue very, very nicely. I mean it’s–they’ve done some studies showing how it just literally–every time you bounce, it just squirts through your body. And as it does so, it starts cleaning out your lymph tissues, your lymph nodes and things like that, and that’s a part of your immune system. So, it’s important to relieve–the water that leaks out of the blood vessels goes into the lymph, and if you don’t have good lymph cleansing or return, it goes back into your circulation. And what happens? You start getting puffy and swelling, and so jumping on trampoline or a good brisk walk is really a good idea.

>> Nice. Okay, well let’s kind of move in to the actual 30-day program and we’re gonna talk about cleanse days to begin with and, you know, one of the biggest things that I hear is that when people are cleansing and I’m talking 24 to 40 hours using the Cleanse for Life and their snacks and maybe a few elements. People’s body temperature kind of drops, I don’t know if it drops, but they feel cold. They feel like they need to wrap up in a blanket. And is this normal?

>> It is very normal. That’s one thing I’ve seen every time–almost everything single time that I’ve ever cleansed, I’ve noticed I got cold. And we’ve come up with a few ideas as the reasons why. Now, Tom, a Dr. McNeilis came up with one. I can’t remember what his was, but the possibilities that is the surface arteries are actually dilating to increase the blood flow to the surfaces.

>> Again, when that happens, you’re actually losing so much heat that you feel cold. Another consideration is that you may be getting a little bit too dehydrated. When you get dehydrated, you can get cold. And then I forgot the one that Dr. McNeilis came up with which was also a really good one. But it could also explain it. But regardless, we can’t really explain it for sure. We can only notice that it does happen on probably I say 80 to 90 percent of the patients that cleanse. They will feel cold on the cleanse days, that’s not bad. That’s actually good because if you’re feeling cold, that means you’re stimulating your body to try to kick up, there’s heat production which burns calories. So, that’s not a bad idea at all.

>> Okay, now let’s talk about elimination and I–this is kind of funny ’cause there’s some people on the line that don’t like to talk about this. These are coaching people through their comments. But this is really important because this–I’ve gotten phone calls where people are like, “Oh my gosh, you know I think I might be bleeding internally ’cause I went, you know, I eliminated and I went number 2 and, you know, my stool is almost black. Help me.” You know, and so let’s talk a little bit about this about, you know, coloring because it’s definitely something that people should be very proud of.

[ Laughter ]

>> Well, this is interesting because you can get really, really dark or green stools that almost look black that are not related to blood. Whereas a really, really black tarry stool quite frankly sometimes can be related to blood. But we haven’t yet so far in 7 years had any patient come back and tell me that any of their stools tested positive for blood, as far as changing that actual color. There’s no doubt that things changed. Whenever you start introducing something different in your digestive system, you have to expect change. I mean they can’t stay the same, so something will change. And with the cleansing process, yes, you can–some people have constipation, some people have diarrhea and sometimes it will flip back and forth. You may find out that the third day of the cleanse, all of a sudden your–you’re having a little bit of diarrhea and then after that you’re getting a little constipated, so. And it varies from associate to associate. So the important thing to realize is there are things that can be done for all of these things.

If you’re having too much diarrhea, well then, you can use things that will absorb water like FiberCon or silium. They can frequently absorb its weight and–or in fact the FiberCon actually absorbs 20 times its weight in water, that can be helpful. If you’re having some constipation, the IsaFlush is a really good idea. The different flavors of the cleanse may also actually change things as well. We’re not quite sure yet on that so I can’t tell you for sure, but that’s a possibility. So you can try different techniques to try to work with that but if you have any question, you can always send those into Isagenix.

>> Yeah, definitely. And you know what, I have what I found most of the time, Dr. Harper, is that when people are first getting started on their first Isagenix program, there might be a little bit of an inconsistency. But once they’ve been on it for a month to 3 months and then of course forever, you know, everything starts to regulate out. And where I find that the issues normally are people that really consume a substantial amount of coffee, pop, and you know black tea, things that are carbonated, you know, and I’m assuming that it’s just that their entire digestive system is just up in arms, and then here you’re putting all these good stuff in and it’s just a matter of balancing out. But let’s talk about that for a second, let’s talk about coffee, tea and pop, because obviously there are no-nos on our cleanse days, but there are really no-nos throughout the entire 30-day program. So maybe you can talk about why people should avoid these types of beverages and some of the harmful things that they actually do to our bodies?

>> Well, caffeine does dehydrate our bodies and we’ve also seen that it causes a person to wanna eat more. It can cause some agitation as well. There have been several studies in regards to showing that it does increase blood pressure and other study that show that it doesn’t increase blood pressure. Firstly with my patients, I would always take somebody with high blood pressure problems off of caffeine and I almost universally saw their blood pressure drop. Now maybe it was also associated with some of the other things that I would recommend I don’t know but to me caffeine is not something that we need. It’s an artificial stimulant. We don’t need that. We want your body to actually have the energy it needs to work and do the stuff that it needs to.

When I went to medical school, I was absolutely shocked by my fellow medical students as they came dragging in in the morning and just looking like death until they had their coffee. And I never drink coffee so I never had the problem. It’s like, well, is there something wrong with them or me? And clearly you get addicted to the caffeine and so it creates a problem, so stay away from caffeine. That’s just not a good idea. The pop also tends to be acidic, makes your body more acidic, has lots of simple sugars in it, and very bad idea. It can grow yeast easily. So, that’s not a good idea either. Stay away for those things.

Another thing is alcohol. A lot of people are drinking alcohol. Alcohol, that’s not good. Those are things with toxins. If you’re gonna be drinking alcohol, the only alcohol I would recommend is red wine. That’s it, nothing else, only red wine. And at that time, even then I would–if you’re gonna be drinking that, no more than 2 glasses a day. So, you wanna keep the alcohol down because these things are all toxins. The red wine is nice because it does have some proanthocyanidins in it and some anthocyanidins that are good antioxidants and has shown to be beneficial, but I would not be drinking anything else.

>> You know, I just about–I remember Jim Rhodes talking one night and talking about how at Harvard Medical he was a guest speaker there one time and some–one of the other speakers got up and said, “You know, what is the most damaging thing that we are feeding our children right now in the United States?” And of course people called out sugar and processed food and chemical, steroids, you know all of these different things, and no one got it. And the answer was carbonation. And the damaging effects of just one can of soda has on the body down at the cellular level to where you can actually see the damage, you know, to the cells underneath the microscope, and I was just floored and I–When I learned that, Dr. Harper, it really made me take a second look at my kids having soda and I know you’ve talked about this. You know, once in a blue moon to have a soda, it’s not gonna hurt you, it’s the everyday consumption; sometimes people drink 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Even–I’ve met a man that drink a 2 liter thing of diet coke a day.

>> Now I have a patient that drink 8 liters of diet coke a day.

>> Oh my gosh!

>> And she had all kinds of problems. And I was saying well, hello, take a look at what you’re drinking.

>> Yeah. And you know, I mean even it’s winter when we’re up skiing, you know, the–these 10-year-old kids would come off the mountain at the base lodge and sit down and crack open, you know, not just a red [inaudible] or excuse me, a Red Bull or a Rock Star, it was like a big gigantic 24-ounce can of Rock Star. And I thought, oh my gosh, you know, did the parents know. And if they do, you know, I mean is it–how could they actually allow their child to consume this? They’re growing, they’re young and, you know, even just the growing bones aspect of, you know, when you drink soda. It’s crazy.

>> Well they’re just not aware. The more the knowledge is out then the easier it will be, but it was interesting because in 1989, that was the first year–I think it was ‘89, maybe it was ‘90. That was the first year that we started drinking more soda pop than we did water in this country.

>> Wow! And I know that, you know, anytime that someone does not that–where their weight slows a little bit as they’re going through their program, that is one of the first questions that I ask is are you consuming soda or coffee or how is your water intake? And almost 9 times out of 10 that that’s one of the issues. That they’re like, “Oh, you know, okay I didn’t know.” So, it’s kind of crazy.

>> That’s [inaudible] for pop, not if you’re gonna have popcorn or something like that, an occasional thing when you go into a movie. You know it’s just hard to not have a pop with that, but stay away from the caffeinated ones.

>> For sure. Well, let’s get into the processed foods, because–and we’ve kind of hit things on the cleanse day, you know, as far as elimination, feeling cold, and of course–but now the consumption of coffee, tea, and pop. But let’s go into processed foods. I mean it’s amazing, my husband is at home now with me building my Isagenix business with me and we go pushing the shopping cart through the grocery store yesterday and this is normally something that I would normally do is go grocery shopping, and we get to the checkout and our cart is like half full. And he said, “Are you sure that we’ve got everything that we need?” And I said yes. He said, “Well this doesn’t look like very much.” And here we had like organic vegetables, some you know healthy proteins, you know some dairy, you know some things all organic and he’s just like, “wait a second,” you know. And I’m like, “Honey, I don’t buy 90 to 95 percent of the grocery store because it’s toxin.”

>> That’s right!

>> And he’s like, aha, right. So, let’s talk about processed foods for a second and what people could be ingesting when they eat some of these canned, boxed type foods, you know, while they’re moving through such a healthy program as Isagenix.

>> Well, obviously you’re–the first thing you’re gonna be looking at is gonna be the pesticides and herbicides that came just from growing the stuff. The other thing is that you’re gonna be looking at the preserves that they use in there. Now, carbohydrates are a great food group that the industry likes because you can change the carbs in so many different ways. I mean all you have to do is go down each aisle and see how many foods are in there that are nothing but carbs.

>> I mean you have whole aisles just dedicated to carbohydrates, cereals, chips, corn chips, potato chips, pretzels, I mean they can change carbohydrates into a number of different foods that they have trained us, literally trained us through advertising and in additions of sugar and salt and stuff like that to where it taste really good, it’s a great snack and things like that. But in reality, they aren’t. They’re empty calories. They have no–they’re not nutritionally dense any larger. They are nutritionally stripped. In fact, one fellow noticed that–we went back and examined medical journals and didn’t find any real heart disease until after they started having white bread. So, it was like, how interesting. And well of course, there’s vitamin E in wheat and the first thing they do is take off the whole and turn it into white flour and away goes your antioxidants. So, it’s a major problem. You need to get into organics as well. Now, organics are tough because you’re still gonna have some problems but that’s better than the rest of the food that’s in there. So, the idea here is clean air, clean water, clean food, that’s all you need. If you have those three, your body knows what to do with those things. Right now we are having a hard time getting any one those three.

>> Yeah, no kidding. And even–you know I’ve heard even the people that are consuming organic diet, it’s still not enough nutrition to help the body combat a lot of the things that our bodies are exposed to and really they’re labeling supplementing as taking super foods. And obviously, Isagenix is like the most perfect super food that is on the market around the world today. And so, you know, how important is supplementation and obviously everybody on the line is supplementing right now. But before them going out and sharing Isagenix with others, what are some of the things that you could share with them when it comes to supplementing?

>> Well, I’ll tell you how we live here and where I live in Shelter Cove [phonetic] and that is, we have Isagenix for breakfast and for dinner and we supplement our Isagenix with food.

[ Laughter ]

>> So it’s a [simultaneous talking]–

>> That’s right.

>> –different way of looking at it. And when you do that, when you really get on top of things like that, you realize you start saving lots of money. You don’t stop by the grocery store all the time. You’re not looking for chips to eat late at night. You’re not stopping at the–for a Big Gulp or a flurry or any of those things. And so you start saving the money. In fact, we so seldom go to the grocery store, it’s unbelievable.

>> Yeah. Yeah, I know.

>> And yet it feels really good. When you get back on “normal foods”, I quote “normal foods”, you feel like you’ve been poisoned again.

>> Uh-hmm. Ooh, that’s a good point.

>> And the other thing is with the organics, the trace minerals are frequently deficient there as well. And so it’s very important. That’s why I love Isagenix because it’s so nutritionally dense. It’s got the trace minerals in it. I mean this is not an empty calorie product. These things are just loaded, loaded with nutritional products.

>> Absolutely. And the–it’s amazing to me to see what’s taking place when people go on the product. It’s just a lot of fun.

>> Yeah.

>> Now, let’s get on to a couple of other things before we close out. The last couple of items that I have on my list, and you might have a couple more things that you’d like to add in, is consuming the shakes. I mean the shakes, let’s go into shake case because obviously people that are looking to lose weight have a different way of using the program than people who are already lean such as an athlete. Obviously they require more calories. Maybe instead of 2 shakes a day, 3 shakes a day and a couple of small meals, but obviously more calories. But we’re talking about people that would need to lose weight that are using the 30-day program right now. What does an ideal shake day look like for them?

>> Well, what I would recommend to my patients is having a shake in the morning when they get up, and then having a shake at night for their dinner, although they’re not having a big meal just before they go to bed. There has been, as far as I’m concerned, that’s a really bad idea. There’s been one study showing that it’s not so much of a–idea. No, no, not a study, just an opinion. I still believe it’s a bad idea to be eating a large meal at night. The best idea is to have your large meal maybe at lunch. And then you can have a regular 4 to 600 calorie lunch, and this is the biggest problem that I see is that most people don’t understand what a 4 to 600 calorie lunch looks like. And so, it’s very important that they find some information. I mean we used to have the IsaPort that was available to give that. We don’t have any longer but–getting some information from whatever calorie counting books, whatever to help them understand what a true 4 to 600 calorie meal looks like.

You’re gonna have a whole plate, a plate of broccoli which is practically nothing, or you can change that to a highly, high glycemic foods, a handful of chips. So it’s like, “woo bad idea,” and most people just aren’t aware of that. White potatoes, you talked about white potatoes before. They’re very high in calorie counts and they’re very high glycemic foods, which mean they’re turned into sugar rapidly. So, you wanna be using fibrous vegetables, but the shakes are very important in the morning and at night as far as I’m concerned.

>> Uh-hmm. Yeah, getting in some of those grains and good proteins, go on that. I mean, yeah, you’re right. With 600 calories, people are hard pressed to eat all of their 600 calorie lunch because it is so much food. I mean it’s like, you know, as many vegetables as your little heart desires, you know, maybe some organic brown rice, you know, some chicken or some eggs or something like that for their protein for that lunch. And it is, that’s a big meal and people definitely feel very full. Now, one other thing too that I wanted to ask you about is plateauing. You know for people that have a lot of weight to lose, you know, and you were from 30 to 100 pounds, 150 pounds, they’re most likely, it’s probably inevitable that they’re going to hit some sort of a plateau. So, what are some good tips that you could give people as they hit that plateau, what to do?

>> Well, one of the first things I realized is sometimes your body likes to plateau. It doesn’t like change sometimes and so it will actually hold on to weight by adding water and until eventually after a couple of weeks, all of sudden it just [inaudible] starts dumping it again. So, don’t get overly excited initially. The other thing is though if you do hit a plateau and it doesn’t seem to be moving, then you need to first of all make sure you actually are doing the program, and it’s amazing how many people really think they’re doing the program but they’re not when they really sit down and look at it. So, it’s very important that they’re not fudging on the program.

The other part is making sure that they understand that they’re keeping their carbs low, good fats high, and moderate amounts of protein. The carbs–produce arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid causes fluid retention. So, keep the carbs low. In some cases like the Atkins diet, people can get rid of the carbs completely. I don’t have a problem with either one of those, I’m just not fond of the Atkins diet for long periods of time. The other thing is if it’s not moving, then you need to look for sleep apnea like we talked about earlier, because that can certainly cause a problem there. And also lab work, lab work is very important. You may need to go to a doctor and have them check for your free T3 level, as well as your TSH levels which have to do with your thyroid, and normals for that should be between 3.2 and 3.6. Now the normal range is 2 to 4.2, but I like my patients be 3.2 to 3.6 on their free T3 levels. That’s what runs the body.

>> Uh-hmm.

>> The other thing would be if they’re taking hormones or any other medications that interfere with their basal metabolic rate. That’s another consideration and that would be something that they have to deal with with their physicians. And then, obviously the other part is just the calorie count like we talked about before. Are you really watching it? It’s amazing how people start going back and eating what they used to eat and they just don’t realize that the calorie count is increasing dramatically.

>> Yeah, no kidding. And, you know, I’ve also heard people of just needing to change things up a little bit. You know like increase, increase you know of mid morning and mid afternoon snack. Add something else in to kinda give the body a little bit of variety too.

>> Oh, sure.

>> To kinda keep the body guessing, what do you think about that?

>> I don’t have a problem with that. You could increase you exercise. Some people have given themselves a whole day off every week, whatever works. And this is where it comes to–every single person is an individual and they’re gonna respond differently. So you have to find out what works for you. But those are some of the things we can suggest.

>> Nice. Well, is there anything else that you can think of that people should definitely take with them tonight in regards to tips to maximizing success?

>> I think we’ve covered most of the ones that we really need to think about. There obviously are ways that I–I mean we’ve talked about this before as far as getting committed, but that’s gonna be a little longer process than what we probably should go into tonight. But obviously staying away from stress is another one, I mean reduce your stress, reduce your stress, reduce your stress. And the best way to reduce your stress is not care about what the outcome is. It’s only stressful if you care.

>> Yeah, that’s very good [simultaneous talking] and also–[inaudible] I know, especially lately folks you know–

[ Simultaneous Talking ]

>> What a bull, what a bunch of bulls. As far as I’m concerned this was–it’s my own personal opinion. Not everybody shares that. But, it’s–what has it done? It has literally caused a stress level in the entire world to go up about 14, not just–That’s ridiculous.

>> Yeah.

>> This is ridiculous.

>> Well, and many–

>> Get away from the news.

>> –you know a little bit of statistic on this too because, I mean every year we would, you know, influenza makes its rounds and the death rate of people, elderly and young dying from influenza every year that comes piling in at that time of year is significant. I mean I believe on the news, it said like, something like 30 some thousand people passed every year because of influenza. And you know, just the statistics alone on this swine flu, I mean in comparison there really is no comparison.

>> That’s right. It’s a minimal–it’s minimal. And could it get worse? It’s a possibility. But you know what? Don’t worry about stuff you can’t change.

>> Uh-hmm.

>> Don’t worry about stuff you can’t change and nobody can change what’s gonna take place with the swine flu. All you can do is keep your immune system healthy. How can you do that? Isagenix.

>> Yeah, yeah.

>> Exercise, good foods, that’s how you take care of your body. I mean if–we’re all living in a world of filth quite frankly. If we don’t keep our immune systems healthy, we’re gonna get sick because it’s everywhere, it’s ubiquitous. We live in a world of filth, so the only way to keep yourself healthy is keep your body healthy.
